Hudson Rock flagged the development.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: Hudson Rock discovered a credible threat actor is selling 400,000,000 Twitter users data.<\/p>\n<p>The private database contains devastating amounts of information including emails and phone numbers of high profile users such as AOC, Kevin O\u2019Leary, Vitalik Buterin &#038; more (1\/2). <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wQU5LLQeE1\">pic.twitter.com\/wQU5LLQeE1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hudson Rock (@RockHudsonRock) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RockHudsonRock\/status\/1606644986363400193?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 24, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>In a December 23 announcement, the seller claimed to have obtained the data in early 2022 due to a vulnerability in the social network. The database contains names, mobile phone numbers and email addresses.<\/p>\n<p>The anonymous seller provided a sample fragment of data covering 1,000 famous users. He also offered Twitter CEO Elon Musk to buy the database to head off its sale and the ensuing penalties for the breach totalling $276 million.<\/p>\n<p>Hudson Rock was unable to fully verify the hacker\u2019s claims, given the volume of accounts. Web3 security firm DeFiYield, however, corroborated the &#8220;reality&#8221; of the information provided by the seller.<\/p>\n<p>Some were skeptical about the possibility of such a large-scale breach, given that the current monthly active user base is around 450 million.<\/p>\n<p>Such information could potentially be used for phishing, SIM swapping and <span data-descr=\"the searching and publication of a person\u2019s personal or confidential information without their consent\" class=\"old_tooltip\">doxing<\/span>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">There are some serious concerns with this. <br \/>#1 \u2014 Identities of many pseudo accounts will be public, posing risks for them<br \/>#2 \u2014 With a phone number, it&#8217;s super easy to find anyone&#8217;s address and banking information.<br \/>#3 \u2014 Multiple phishing attempts via cellphone, physical, or email<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Haseeb Awan \u2014 efani.com (@haseeb) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/haseeb\/status\/1607063877426245633?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 25, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>As reported in late November, Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/scam-deals-with-ton-domains-a-major-twitter-data-leak-and-other-cybersecurity-developments\">confirmed a data breach affecting 5.4 million users<\/a>.
