Taking as a baseline an estimate of global household wealth at $100-300 trillion, he predicted that the value of 1 BTC would eventually reach around $10 million.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u00abI think I was the first person besides Satoshi to run a Bitcoin node. [\u2026] I became the recipient of the first transaction when Satoshi sent me ten coins as a test,<\/em> \u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/bitcointalk.org\/index.php?topic=155054.0\">wrote<\/a> a programmer on the Bitcointalk forum at the time.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In a 2009 letter from Nakamoto, Finney described mining coins at the time as &#8216;a pretty good bet&#8217;, noting it would cost only a few cents of compute time.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/Dqyp49sU8AAmiZe?format=jpg&#038;name=large\" alt=\"Image\" width=\"840\" height=\"474\"\/><figcaption>Data: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/real_vijay\/status\/1057421953319940096\/photo\/2\">Twitter<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The first transaction of the digital gold was confirmed in <a href=\"https:\/\/blockstream.info\/tx\/f4184fc596403b9d638783cf57adfe4c75c605f6356fbc91338530e9831e9e16\">block #170<\/a>. The value of the cryptocurrency Finney received was virtually zero.<\/p>\n<p>As of writing, Bitcoin trades around $18,100, and its market capitalisation stands at about $349.3 billion (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\">CoinGecko<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Hal Finney played a pivotal role in the history of digital gold, and in some accounts he is identified as the creator of the cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2022, Finney&#8217;s Twitter account unexpectedly resurfaced after eight years of inactivity. His wife, Fran, urged Elon Musk, in the bot-busting drive, not to delete her husband&#8217;s account, who had died in 2014 after an illness.<\/p>\n<p>Her supporters backed it. From January 1 to 10, the #RunningBitcoinChallenge was held.
