{"id":72466,"date":"2023-01-13T11:37:22","date_gmt":"2023-01-13T09:37:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=72466"},"modified":"2025-09-08T15:23:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T12:23:07","slug":"wonderfi-confirms-talks-to-acquire-coinsquare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/wonderfi-confirms-talks-to-acquire-coinsquare\/","title":{"rendered":"WonderFi confirms talks to acquire Coinsquare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The DeFi platform WonderFi Technologies, backed by television personality Kevin O\u2019Leary, confirmed that it is in preliminary talks to acquire the Canadian cryptocurrency exchange Coinsquare. <a href=\"https:\/\/stockhouse.com\/news\/press-releases\/2023\/01\/12\/wonderfi-responds-to-market-speculation\">\u0433\u043e\u0432\u043e\u0440\u0438\u0442\u0441\u044f<\/a> in a press release.<\/p>\n<p>On January 12, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bnnbloomberg.ca\/exclusive-coinsquare-wonderfi-in-merger-talks-to-create-canadian-crypto-giant-sources-1.1869367\">BNN Bloomberg<\/a>, citing sources, reported that the parties were discussing a potential deal.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201c[\u2026] the company acknowledges that it has held preliminary talks with various third parties regarding both potential acquisitions as well as regarding [Coinsquare]. These discussions are preliminary and ongoing,\u201d according to a WonderFi statement.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Representatives emphasised that they cannot guarantee any outcomes of a potential deal and declined to comment further until an agreement is reached.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2022 Coinsquare <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/coinsquare-to-acquire-publicly-traded-coinsmart\">announced the acquisition<\/a> of the publicly traded cryptocurrency exchange CoinSmart. However in January 2023 the latter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newswire.ca\/news-releases\/coinsmart-announces-receipt-of-notice-from-coinsquare-ltd-purporting-to-terminate-share-purchase-agreement-859339379.html\">announced<\/a> that the deal was terminated.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, WonderFi <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/wonderfi-closes-acquisition-of-coinberry\">acquired Canadian Coinberry<\/a> for $30 million.
