At the time, the organisation noted a rise in crime alongside the growing number of users in virtual worlds.<\/p>\n<p>Among the potential threats cited by Interpol were data theft, money laundering, financial fraud, counterfeiting, extortion, phishing, sexual harassment and stalking.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in October 2022, Stock <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/interpol-forms-a-unit-to-combat-cryptocurrency-crimes\">announced<\/a> the creation within the organisation of a unit to combat crimes related to digital assets.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2020, it emerged that Interpol <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/interpol-halts-activities-of-cybercriminals-who-attacked-500000-companies-worldwide\">disrupted<\/a> the activities of criminals from Nigeria who had attacked 500,000 companies worldwide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Interpol secretary-general J\u00fcrgen Stock said he intends to bring criminal activity in the metaverse under control.
