The work is believed to include the first appearance of the term &#8216;metaverse&#8217;.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThis Snow Crash thing\u2014is it a virus, a drug, or a religion?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sotheby\u2019s is excited to announce Snow Crash \u2013 an offering of physical and digital items connected to the revolutionary 1992 science fiction novel by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nealstephenson?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@nealstephenson<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lvqYJKXWuU\">https:\/\/t.co\/lvqYJKXWuU<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bidding opens 27 February. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/SnkFVhpU1v\">pic.twitter.com\/SnkFVhpU1v<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sotheby&#8217;s (@Sothebys) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sothebys\/status\/1628793697218297857?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 23, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Among the lots are works by artist Tony Shider for a collaboration with the science-fiction writer on a graphic novel concept, Dioxin Posse, which inspired Snow Crash.<\/p>\n<p>Also on offer is a sword replica from the novel by W\u0113t\u0101 Workshop, in a bundle with an NFT, and a number of other items.<\/p>\n<p>Sotheby\u2019s noted that \u201cSnow Crash\u201d also helped popularize the term &#8216;avatar&#8217;.
