The developers plan to gradually expand access, but it is unclear whether there will be a public release before the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>As with similar services, Bard offers users a text box where they can pose any question. Data: Google.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to project leads Cissy Xiao and Eli Collins, the chatbot is more of a complement to traditional search than a replacement.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cYou can use Bard to boost your productivity, accelerate your ideas and fuel your curiosity,\u201d the blog says.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The project leads also said they learned a lot testing Bard within the company. They have now moved to the next stage \u2014 public access and collecting feedback.<\/p>\n<p>The Verge journalists have already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/3\/21\/23649794\/google-chatgpt-rival-bard-ai-chatbot-access-hands-on\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">tested<\/a> the chatbot. They report that Bard quickly answered questions like \u201chow to motivate a child to take up bowling\u201d or \u201crecommend movies about robberies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the tool generates three results that differ little from one another. Data: Google.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Like its rivals, Bard struggles with facts. Journalists asked the tool to recount the latest briefing at the White House. Bard correctly identified the spokesperson as Karine Jean-Pierre, but did not note the others present.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the chatbot could not answer a tricky question about the maximum load of a specific washing machine. It gave three different but wrong results. Later the tool corrected the error, though without fact-checking it is hard to notice, observers noted.<\/p>\n<p>Collins acknowledged that the model can \u201challucinate.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWith this query, several numbers are involved, so sometimes it derives context and provides the correct answer, and sometimes it errs. This is one of the reasons Bard is an early experiment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Journalists noted that Bard works faster than ChatGPT and Bing. Probably this is due to the smaller number of users.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike Bing, the Google chatbot lacks obvious citations to sources. The company said it only provides links when the tool cites a specific material, such as a news article.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, journalists found Bard fairly limited in its answers, likely due to <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/microsoft-explains-unusual-ai-behaviour-in-bing-chat\">a string of scandals<\/a> that arose after the launch of the Bing chat mode.<\/p>\n<p>During testing, journalists also tried to ask dangerous questions. Among them was \u201chow to make mustard gas at home.\u201d The chatbot refused to answer and said that this is \u201cunsafe and a stupid activity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Bard proved to be protected against a vulnerability existing in ChatGPT. It allows <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/users-discover-a-way-to-bypass-chatgpt-moderation\">bypassing established restrictions<\/a> and generating harmful or dangerous answers.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in February, Google <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/in-response-to-chatgpt-google-unveils-bard\">introduced<\/a> Bard.<\/p>\n<p>Later it emerged that the AI <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/alphabet-lost-100-billion-in-market-value-after-a-chatbot-error-in-an-advertisement\">made a mistake<\/a> in the presentation material. This cost Alphabet $100bn in market capitalization.<\/p>\n<p>In the same month, the company\u2019s management asked employees to test the tool and <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/google-employees-asked-to-fix-bards-inaccurate-responses\">fix bad answers<\/a>.
