The process of selling the assets currently undergoing bankruptcy proceedings<\/a> of the crypto broker Voyager Digital to the Binance.US exchange has been temporarily halted. This is stated in \u0441\u0443\u0434\u0435\u0431\u043d\u044b\u0445 \u0434\u043e\u043a\u0443\u043c\u0435\u043d\u0442\u0430\u0445<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On March 17, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a motion for an emergency stay on the deal. On March 20, Voyager Digital challenged this motion, but a day later the department filed a counter-appeal.<\/p>\n

The presiding judge, Jennifer Riordan, ruled:<\/p>\n

\u00abAfter considering the written submissions of all parties, as well as the conferences and oral arguments held on this matter, I hereby grant the government’s emergency motion\u00bb.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In December 2022, Binance.US proposed the highest bid<\/a> for Voyager’s assets \u2014 $1.02 billion.<\/p>\n

However, regulators, including the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the New York State Department of Financial Services, opposed<\/a> the deal.<\/p>\n

During the hearings on the case, SEC officials stated<\/a> that the American subsidiary of Binance operates an unregistered securities exchange.<\/p>\n

The U.S. Department of Justice also opposed<\/a> the purchase by the platform’s U.S. subsidiary.<\/p>\n

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams noted<\/a> that the agreement between the companies effectively rehabilitates Voyager and its employees after breaches of the Securities Act.<\/p>\n

In March 2023, Lookonchain experts recorded a liquidation of the broker’s assets<\/a> for roughly $56 million. Later, Voyager Digital sent<\/a> $27.7 million in digital assets to the Coinbase exchange.<\/p>\n

On March 27, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) filed<\/a> a lawsuit against Binance and its CEO Changpeng Zhao. The regulator accused the crypto exchange of \u201cwillful evasion of U.S. law\u201d and non-compliance with rules.<\/p>\n

In response, Zhao stated<\/a> that the CFTC’s allegations contain \u201cincomplete statements of facts,\u201d and that his company does not agree with the characterizations of many points.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
