In GPDP&#8217;s view, the tool exposes minors to responses entirely unsuitable for their level of development and self-awareness.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>Authorities ordered OpenAI to immediately stop collecting Italian users&#8217; data until it changes its methods for obtaining personal information.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>OpenAI has 20 days to comply with GPDP&#8217;s requirements. Otherwise, it faces a fine of \u20ac20 million or 4% of annual turnover.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed the block. The company also rejected the allegations made by Italian authorities.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p>\u201cWe have disabled ChatGPT for users in Italy at the request of the local Garante [regulatory authority]. We are committed to protecting people&#8217;s privacy and believe we comply with the GDPR and other privacy laws,\u201d <a href=\\\"https:\/\/www.computing.co.uk\/news\/4111387\/italy-bans-chatgpt-privacy-concerns\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\" rel=\\\"noopener nofollow\\\" title=\\\"\\\">said<\/a> a company spokesperson.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>As of publication, ForkLog AI could not access ChatGPT using an Italian VPN. The firm pledged to refund March charges to premium subscribers of the chatbot.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<figure class=\\\"wp-block-image size-full\\\"><img decoding=\\\"async\\\" src=\\\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Znimok-ekrana-2023-04-03-120058.webp\\\" alt=\\\"OpenAI statement for Italian users\\\" class=\\\"wp-image-203190\\\"\/><figcaption>OpenAI statement for Italian users. Data: OpenAI.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the regulator mentioned a recent ChatGPT outage, during which some user data <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/chatgpt-outage-exposed-subscribers-payment-information\">was exposed in a data breach<\/a>. However, the regulator did not bring formal charges on this matter.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>Earlier GPDP <a href=\\\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/italy-bans-us-based-ai-chatbot-replika-using-personal-data-2023-02-03\/\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\" rel=\\\"noopener nofollow\\\" title=\\\"\\\">announced<\/a> the ban on the Replika app \u2014 a builder of personal chatbots.
