At the end of March, Italy became the first country to <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/italy-blocks-chatgpt-over-privacy-concerns\">launch<\/a> an investigation into ChatGPT.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities intend to determine the legality of collecting citizens&#8217; personal data and the potential harm the chatbot could pose to minors. At the time of the probe, regulators had ordered the tool to be blocked within the country.<\/p>\n<p>Following Italy, regulators in the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/european-regulators-clamp-down-on-chatgpt\">allowed<\/a> similar measures.<\/p>\n<p>Regulators have not disclosed what confidential information is being referred to. The language model used in ChatGPT is trained on publicly available data from the internet.<\/p>\n<p>Yet users can themselves share personal information with the chatbot. OpenAI does not disclose how such data is used.<\/p>\n<p>Some companies, such as Amazon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/amazon-chatgpt-openai-warns-employees-not-share-confidential-information-microsoft-2023-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\">warned<\/a> employees not to share confidential information with ChatGPT, for example by pasting snippets of code.<\/p>\n<p>Concerns about data leakage intensified after <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/chatgpt-outage-exposed-subscribers-payment-information\">Redis library errors<\/a> exposed some user data to third parties.<\/p>\n<p>In March, a technology ethics group urged the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/group-accuses-openai-of-violating-trade-laws\">conduct<\/a> an investigation into OpenAI.
