The news is reported by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/business-65236848\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" title=\"\"> BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The tool supports English and Chinese. It will initially appear in the corporate messenger DingTalk.<\/p>\n<p>The chatbot will perform a range of tasks, including:<\/p>\n<ul class=\\\"wp-block-list\\\">\n<li>transcribing conversations from meetings into written notes;<\/li>\n<li>drafting emails;<\/li>\n<li>preparing business proposals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The company will also add Tongyi Qianwen to the smart speaker Tmall Genie.<\/p>\n<p>The cloud computing unit said it would integrate the tool across Alibaba&#8217;s businesses &#8220;in the near future.&#8221; However, officials did not specify timelines.<\/p>\n<p>Tongyi Qianwen literally translates as &#8220;searching for an answer by asking a thousand questions&#8221;.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p>&#8220;We are at a technological watershed driven by generative artificial intelligence and cloud computing,&#8221; said Daniel Zhang, chairman and chief executive of Alibaba.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Interest in generative AI and chatbots has surged amid the popularity of ChatGPT. Since the launch of the tool in November 2022, a number of tech firms have announced their own alternatives.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2023, Microsoft and OpenAI <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/microsoft-and-openai-seal-multi-billion-dollar-deal\">struck<\/a> a multi-billion-dollar deal. This enabled <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/microsoft-unveils-updated-bing-powered-by-chatgpt\">the startup&#8217;s language models to be added to the Bing search engine.<\/p>\n<p>In February, Google <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/in-response-to-chatgpt-google-unveils-bard\">unveiled<\/a> its version of conversational AI \u2014 the chatbot Bard. A month later, a limited number of users <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/google-accused-of-using-chatgpt-data-to-train-bard\">gained<\/a> access to the tool.<\/p>\n<p>In March, Chinese tech giant Baidu <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/china-answers-chatgpt-as-baidu-unveils-ernie-bot\">introduced<\/a> Earnie Bot.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in March, more than a thousand industry experts, including Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak, urged a six-month pause <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/hundreds-of-experts-call-for-a-six-month-pause-on-training-the-gpt-4-successor\">on the training of language models<\/a> more powerful than GPT-4 from OpenAI.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, a number of other experts <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/experts-criticise-plan-to-pause-ai-research\">criticised<\/a> the authors of the letter. They were accused of distorting scientific research to promote the idea of the &#8216;excessive power&#8217; of AI.<\/p>\n<p>In April, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt also <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/eric-schmidt-pause-in-ai-research-benefits-only-china\">expressed doubts<\/a> about the advisability of the initiative.
