Users gained the ability to withdraw cryptocurrency from staking.<\/p>\n<figure class=\\\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\\\">\n<div class=\\\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\\\">\n<iframe loading=\\\"lazy\\\" title=\\\"Shapella Watch Party\\\" width=\\\"500\\\" height=\\\"281\\\" src=\\\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BVq1pz3FrDo?feature=oembed\\\" frameborder=\\\"0\\\" allow=\\\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\\\" referrerpolicy=\\\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\\\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The hard fork occurred on epoch <a href=\\\"https:\/\/beaconcha.in\/epoch\/194048\\\">#194 048<\/a>, which had been finalised. Developers noted that the network observed a few missed blocks, but on the whole the update went smoothly and the blockchain appears stable.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\\\"https:\/\/app.parsec.finance\/layout\/geeogi\/yuriz8db\\\" title=\\\"\\\">parsec<\/a> service, ETH withdrawals have begun. At the time of writing, validators had unlocked more than 3,100 ETH. Meanwhile, funds continue to flow into the deposit contract.<\/p>\n<figure class=\\\"wp-block-image size-full\\\"><img decoding=\\\"async\\\" src=\\\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/flows-1.webp\\\" alt=\\\"flows\\\" class=\\\"wp-image-204163\\\"\/><figcaption>Inflow and outflow of ETH from staking. The total amount of assets in staking exceeds 18 million ETH.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, 56% of validators&#8217; addresses lack the 0x01 prefix \u2014 this data type is required to unlock assets.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2022, Ethereum <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-activates-the-merge-blockchain-shifts-to-pos\">activated<\/a> The Merge, which saw the blockchain move to the consensus algorithm <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/proof-of-stake-how-it-works-and-why-it-is-so-popular\">Proof-of-Stake<\/a>. Participants of the mainnet gained access to <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-staking-and-how-to-make-money-from-it\">staking<\/a> \u2014 directly (validators) or through specialized protocols like <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-lido\">Lido<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Shapella includes changes for the execution layers (<a href=\\\"https:\/\/github.com\/ethereum\/execution-specs\/blob\/master\/network-upgrades\/mainnet-upgrades\/shanghai.md\\\">Shanghai<\/a>) and the consensus (<a href=\\\"https:\/\/github.com\/ethereum\/consensus-specs\/releases\/tag\/v1.3.0-rc.5\\\">Capella<\/a>). The most important is the ability to withdraw ETH from the deposit contract Beacon Chain.<\/p>\n<p>Developers have also reduced gas costs for executing certain transaction types, optimised data storage on the blockchain, implemented a number of EVM-related improvements and introduced new cryptographic primitives.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We detailed the hard fork&#8217;s ecosystem impact in a dedicated piece:<\/p>\n<p>Ethereum prices reacted to Shapella&#8217;s activation with volatility, but no material price movements were observed.
