Huang noted the high quality of the Japanese market and the presence of stringent regulations.<\/p>\n<p>In February 2022, the platform <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/amber-group-acquires-japanese-bitcoin-exchange-decurret\">acquired<\/a> the local bitcoin exchange DeCurret. The latter held a Crypto-Asset Exchange Service Provider license from the Financial Services Agency of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Amber Group also plans to apply for a license in Hong Kong. Previously, <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/huobi-applies-for-a-licence-in-hong-kong\">Huobi exchange<\/a> took this step, <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/okx-to-apply-for-a-hong-kong-license\">announced<\/a> OKX.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe regulatory situation in Hong Kong is very optimistic for us,\u201d Huang said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In October 2022, the Hong Kong Financial Services and Treasury Bureau published a statement on <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/hong-kong-eases-crypto-regulation-and-revises-stance-on-bitcoin-etfs\">easing of restrictions on cryptocurrencies<\/a> and its willingness to work with virtual-asset service providers.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2023, Hong Kong&#8217;s Financial Secretary Paul Chan said that the jurisdiction is ready to welcome cryptocurrency companies from around the world. The official noted that authorities had recently completed work on a licensing regime for the industry.<\/p>\n<p>In February, Chan said that Hong Kong <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/hong-kong-to-earmark-hkd-50m-in-annual-budget-for-web3-industry\">will earmark $6.4 million in the annual budget<\/a> to accelerate the development of the Web3 ecosystem. The funds will also go to support <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/hong-kong-to-back-1000-web3-startups-says-g-rocket-accelerator\">the G-Rocket accelerator<\/a>, which began operating earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2022, Amber Group <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/amber-group-raises-300-million-in-series-c-led-by-fenbushi-capital-us\">raised $300 million<\/a> in a Series C round, led by Fenbushi Capital US.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to that, the company <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/amber-group-cancels-annual-bonuses-and-cuts-management-salaries\">canceled annual bonuses<\/a> for staff and cut executive salaries due to slow business growth and industry uncertainty.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amber Group is exploring the possibility of selling its Japanese unit.
