Buterin stated that using the mechanism for other purposes could lead to &#8220;high systemic risks for the ecosystem&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2022, as part of the substantial upgrade <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-activates-the-merge-blockchain-shifts-to-pos\">The Merge<\/a>, the Ethereum network moved from the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-the-proof-of-work-pow-algorithm\">Proof-of-Work<\/a> algorithm to the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/proof-of-stake-how-it-works-and-why-it-is-so-popular\">Proof-of-Stake<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Buterin noted that in recent years a number of ideas has emerged to use public blockchain consensus for initiatives such as <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-blockchain-oracle\">decentralized oracles<\/a>, restaking, and the managed recovery <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-layer%e2%80%912-solution-in-blockchain\">L2 protocols<\/a> through the main network.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Reusing ETH staked by validators, while fraught with some risks, is in principle normal, but an attempt to &#8220;recruit&#8221; Ethereum&#8217;s public consensus for your application&#8217;s own purposes is unacceptable,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Regardless of specific initiatives or projects, the Ethereum cofounder noted that such methods carry risks up to <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-51-attack\">a 51% attack<\/a> and lead to a dilution of control by the community.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;We must preserve the network&#8217;s minimalism, support restaking use cases that do not look like slippery roads toward expanding the role of Ethereum&#8217;s consensus, and help developers find alternative strategies to achieve their security objectives,&#8221; concluded Buterin.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As reported in January, he <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/vitalik-buterin-proposes-a-privacy-solution-for-ethereum\">called<\/a> privacy &#8220;the biggest remaining problem&#8221;
