The seller was Pantera Capital, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.galaxy.com\/transactions\/ripple-acquires-panteras-minority-stake-in-bitstamp\/\"> Galaxy Digital<\/a>, which acted as intermediary in the deal.<\/p>\n<p>According to the venture firm, the agreements were reached in the first quarter of 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The terms were not disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>9 May 2023, Galaxy Digital<a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/galaxy-digital-posts-134-million-profit-in-q1-2023\"> in a press release<\/a> on first-quarter results said that it had become Pantera Capital&#8217;s adviser regarding a potential sale of its stake in Bitstamp to Ripple Labs.<\/p>\n<p>The venture firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2014-03-17\/fortress-linked-pantera-said-to-invest-in-top-bitcoin-exchange\">invested $10 million<\/a> in the Bitcoin exchange in March 2014. The size of the stake and its value were not disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2023, the fintech startup <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ripple-agrees-to-acquire-crypto-custodian-metaco-for-250-million\">announced<\/a> the acquisition of custodian Metaco. As a result of the purchase, Ripple will be able to offer clients tools for custody, issuance and settlement of tokenized assets.<\/p>\n<p>A month earlier Bitstamp<a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitstamp-launches-lending-service-in-europe-hong-kong-and-the-uae\">unveiled<\/a> a coin-lending service targeted at certain markets in Europe, Hong Kong and the UAE.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The fintech startup Ripple has become the owner of a minority stake in the cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp.
