According to <a href=\\\"https:\/\/kahawatungu.com\/police-raid-worldcoin-cryptocurrency-warehouse-in-nairobi-over-data\/\\\">KahawaTungu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>Worldcoin <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/sam-altmans-worldcoin-project-launches-its-own-token\">announced the official launch<\/a> on July 24. The project&#8217;s main product \u2014 the World ID protocol \u2014 is based on <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-zero-knowledge-proof\">zero-knowledge proofs<\/a>. It is a mobile tool that enables people to verify their identity via retina scan or a phone number.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Kenya&#8217;s Ministry of Interior <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/kenyan-authorities-suspend-worldcoin-activities\">restricted Worldcoin&#8217;s local operations<\/a> in order to assess potential risks to public safety. This move opened the door to the start of an investigation.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>On August 5, police officers from an interagency task force seized documentation and devices that, according to them, stored the collected information.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, Worldcoin&#8217;s property was handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations at its headquarters for analysis.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>The raid was conducted with the participation of the Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait. According to her, Tools for Humanity, Worldcoin&#8217;s parent company, did not disclose its true intentions at registration.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>The project opened the possibility of identity verification in a number of countries, including France, Japan, Germany, Spain and Indonesia. Worldcoin explained that it chose Kenya to launch the platform in Africa due to a boom in the tech sector and the presence of more than 4 million crypto traders.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>Users receive 25 tokens of <a href=\\\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\/coins\/worldcoin\\\">WLD<\/a> for biometric verification via the Orb device (about $51.5 at the time of writing). In July, Altman <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/sam-altman-shows-long-japanese-queue-for-worldcoin\">showed a long queue<\/a> in Japan of those eager to register for WLD.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, oversight authorities in <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/uk-regulator-to-examine-worldcoins-activities\">the United Kingdom<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/french-regulator-questions-the-legality-of-worldcoins-biometric-data-collection\">France<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/german-regulator-opens-investigation-into-worldcoin\">Germany<\/a> have already shown an interest in the project&#8217;s activities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kenyan law enforcement officers conducted a raid on the warehouse of Sam Altman&#8217;s Worldcoin cryptocurrency project.
