{"id":83431,"date":"2023-08-22T16:47:28","date_gmt":"2023-08-22T13:47:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=83431"},"modified":"2025-09-12T11:05:48","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T08:05:48","slug":"bitcoin-developers-call-the-pseudo-satoshi-lawsuit-fraudulent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/bitcoin-developers-call-the-pseudo-satoshi-lawsuit-fraudulent\/","title":{"rendered":"Bitcoin developers call the &#8216;pseudo-Satoshi&#8217; lawsuit fraudulent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/jack-dorsey-launches-fund-to-aid-bitcoin-developers-in-legal-battles\">Established by Jack Dorsey<\/a>, the Bitcoin Legal Defense Fund filed on behalf of 12 Bitcoin Core developers a <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoindefense.org\/developer-defendants-claim-tulip-trading-case-is-fraudulent-in-preliminary-issue-application\/\">\u0445\u043e\u0434\u0430\u0442\u0430\u0439\u0441\u0442\u0432\u043e<\/a> in the High Court of the United Kingdom seeking to overturn the suit brought by the self-proclaimed creator of the first cryptocurrency, Craig Wright, and his Tulip Trading company.<\/p>\n<p>The case concerns a February 2021 matter in which Wright <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/craig-wright-demands-bitcoin-core-developers-restore-access-to-mt-gox-stolen-bitcoins\">demanded the return of access<\/a> to two wallets containing ~111 000 BTC (~$2.88 billion at the time of writing), allegedly stolen due to the fault of Bitcoin Core staff. One of the addresses is linked to the Mt.Gox exchange hack.<\/p>\n<p>According to a recent motion filed by Tulip Trading, the suit is fraudulent and the assets sought likely do not belong to the firm. The lawyers insist that the \u201cpseudo-Satoshi\u201d prove his right to own the bitcoins before the court makes a final ruling.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The purported 111,000 BTC were held at two addresses \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/bitinfocharts.com\/bitcoin\/address\/12ib7dApVFvg82TXKycWBNpN8kFyiAN1dr\">12ib7<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blockchain.com\/explorer\/addresses\/btc\/1FeexV6bAHb8ybZjqQMjJrcCrHGW9sb6uF\">1FeeX<\/a> \u2014 and there is no evidence that Tulip Trading or Wright ever controlled them, according to the defence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cDr Wright has a long history of fraudulent schemes, forgeries and dishonesty (including in court cases in this jurisdiction and internationally). [\u2026] These proceedings are an attempt by Wright, through Tulip Trading, to use the British courts as a tool of deception. These are serious allegations, and they are not made lightly,\u201d the document states.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The self-proclaimed Satoshi says he bought the bitcoins in late February 2011 from the Russian exchange WMIRK. However, he has been unable to provide any evidence of the transaction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the Bitcoin Legal Defense Fund stressed that if Wright truly owns the address holding 79 957 BTC, this would amount to involvement in the Mt. Gox hack.<\/p>\n<p>In late July 2023, the British court <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/uk-court-of-appeal-upholds-previous-ruling-in-defamation-case-brought-by-craig-wright-self-proclaimed-satoshi-nakamoto-against-peter-mccormack\">dismissed the appeal<\/a> by Craig Wright in the defamation case against Bitcoin podcast host Peter McCormack.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The businessman filed a defamation claim in 2019. He sought \u00a3100 000 in damages and costs for the legal proceedings.
