{"id":83776,"date":"2023-08-30T13:22:56","date_gmt":"2023-08-30T10:22:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=83776"},"modified":"2025-09-12T13:14:12","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T10:14:12","slug":"seba-bank-secures-hong-kong-regulators-approval","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/seba-bank-secures-hong-kong-regulators-approval\/","title":{"rendered":"SEBA Bank secures Hong Kong regulator&#8217;s approval"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The licensed Swiss cryptocurrency bank SEBA has received in-principle approval from the <span data-descr=\\\"Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong\\\" class=\\\"old_tooltip\\\">SFC<\/span> to conduct digital-asset\u2013related activities in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<div class=\\\"wp-block-image\\\">\n<figure class=\\\"aligncenter size-full\\\"><img decoding=\\\"async\\\" src=\\\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/image-580.webp\\\" alt=\\\"image-580\\\" class=\\\"wp-image-214714\\\"\/><figcaption class=\\\"wp-element-caption\\\">Data:<a href=\\\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WeAreSEBA\/status\/1696697605403640197\\\"> X<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The licence will allow the company to work with securities, including crypto-linked instruments such as over-the-counter derivatives and structured products.<\/p>\n<p>SEBA also obtained the right to provide consultancy and asset-management services on fiduciary accounts.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\\\"https:\/\/www.theblock.co\/post\/247818\/crypto-bank-seba-obtains-approval-in-principle-in-hong-kong\\\">The Block<\/a> CEO Amy Yu, who oversees the <span data-descr=\\\"Asia-Pacific region\\\" class=\\\"old_tooltip\\\">APAC<\/span>, said the organisation sees enormous potential in Hong Kong and Singapore amid strong demand from crypto firms for banking services.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\">\n<p><em>\u201cWe do not expect any problems obtaining full official approval by the end of this year,\u201d<\/em> she predicted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Initially, the local unit will operate as a sub-broker to the parent company.<\/p>\n<p>According to Yu, the bank plans to obtain licences in other regional countries later, primarily in Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2022, SEBA Bank opened an office in Hong Kong. A month earlier, the Financial Services and Treasury Bureau published <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/hong-kong-eases-crypto-regulation-and-revises-stance-on-bitcoin-etfs\">a statement of eased restrictions<\/a> on cryptocurrencies and a willingness to engage with providers of virtual-asset services. <\/p>\n<p>In December, trading began on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/hong-kong-launches-trading-of-first-crypto-etfs\">for<\/a> two <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-cryptocurrency-etf\">ETFs<\/a> linked to US-listed futures on digital assets.
