{"id":84781,"date":"2023-09-20T16:50:47","date_gmt":"2023-09-20T13:50:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=84781"},"modified":"2025-09-12T19:24:58","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T16:24:58","slug":"neuralink-to-conduct-human-clinical-trials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/neuralink-to-conduct-human-clinical-trials\/","title":{"rendered":"Neuralink to conduct human clinical trials"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The biotechnology company Neuralink, founded by billionaire Elon Musk, <a href=\"https:\/\/neuralink.com\/blog\/first-clinical-trial-open-for-recruitment\/\">opened<\/a> recruitment for volunteers for the first human clinical trials of neurotechnologies.<\/p>\n<p>The <span data-descr=\"Precise Robotically Implanted Brain-Computer Interface \u2014 a high-precision robotic-implanted brain-computer interface\" class=\"old_tooltip\">PRIME<\/span> study on the development of a wireless brain\u2013computer interface aims to assess the safety of the implant and the surgical robot.<\/p>\n<p>Neuralink will also test the functionality of a neural chip that enables people with paralysis to control computer devices with their thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>During the tests, a calibrated robot under doctors&#8217; control will insert an ultra-thin, flexible implant thread into the motor region of the brain. The device reads neural impulses and transmits them to a dedicated app.<\/p>\n<p>Neuralink <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/neuralink-cleared-to-test-brain-implants-in-humans\">received clearance<\/a> for human testing in May 2023 from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe initial goal of our implant is to give people the ability to control a computer cursor or keyboard using only their thoughts. [\u2026] This is an important step in the mission to create a universal brain-computer interface to restore patients with special medical needs,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>People with paralysis of the limbs resulting from a cervical spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis may apply for participation in the program.<\/p>\n<p>In August, Neuralink closed a financing round <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/elon-musk-founded-neuralink-raises-280-million\">for $280 million<\/a>.
