{"id":85866,"date":"2023-10-18T10:20:36","date_gmt":"2023-10-18T07:20:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=85866"},"modified":"2025-09-13T01:58:46","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T22:58:46","slug":"sazmining-launches-a-green-bitcoin-farm-in-paraguay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/sazmining-launches-a-green-bitcoin-farm-in-paraguay\/","title":{"rendered":"Sazmining launches a &#8216;green&#8217; Bitcoin farm in Paraguay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The American mining company Sazmining has opened a Bitcoin mining facility in Paraguay powered by 100% renewable energy. <a href=\"https:\/\/decrypt.co\/201963\/bitcoin-miner-sazmining-paraguay-itaipu-dam\">Decrypt<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>The firm offers hosting services, managing clients&#8217; equipment and charging a 15% fee on revenue.<\/p>\n<p>The Sazmining data centre in Paraguay uses the surplus electricity produced by the <span data-descr=\"hydroelectric power plant\" class=\"old_tooltip\">Itaipu<\/span> hydroelectric power plant.<\/p>\n<p>The hydroelectric power plant, built jointly with Brazil, is the most expensive single facility on Earth. The plant, commissioned in 1984, cost $27 billion, equivalent to about $35.93 billion today in inflation-adjusted terms.<\/p>\n<p>Kent Halliburton, president of Sazmining, noted that, due to an oversupply for a small country, Paraguay sells 5 GW of electricity at a loss to its project partner\u2014Brazil. Bitcoin mining allows the state to derive revenue from Itaipu.<\/p>\n<p>According to Sazmining, the rate for the company is $0.047 per kWh \u2014 significantly lower than what is available to it in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>As of December 2022, the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance at the University of Cambridge estimated Paraguay&#8217;s share of Bitcoin&#8217;s hashrate at 0.15%.
