The latter could replace cash, <span data-descr=\"International Monetary Fund\" class=\"old_tooltip\">IMF<\/span> Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1275\" height=\"717\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qisFRnu4Q_s\" title=\"IMF Seminar: Financial Inclusion as a Pathway to Resilient and Shared Growth\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>The public sector must continue preparing for the rollout of central bank digital currencies and the payment platforms associated with them<\/em> \u2014 she noted.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In her view, countries should &#8216;remain open to potentially deploying CBDCs tomorrow&#8217;.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8216;National digital currencies could replace cash in island economies. They could provide resilience in more developed economies. CBDCs could improve access to financial services where only a few have bank accounts.&#8217;<\/em> Georgieva said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the IMF chief, 60% of countries are studying national digital currencies.<\/p>\n<p>Georgieva urged central-bank leadership to &#8216;think like entrepreneurs&#8217;.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8216;Communication strategies and incentives for dissemination, integration and adoption are as important as design,<\/em>&#8221; she explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In her view, one of the most important factors in studying CBDCs is their ability to facilitate cross-border payments.<\/p>\n<p>The IMF <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/imf-to-develop-platform-for-national-digital-currencies\">is working<\/a> on the corresponding platform.<\/p>\n<p>In May the organization released a report on the first CBDC in Africa \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/imf-sees-room-for-enaira-improvement-in-first-year-assessment\">the Nigerian eNaira<\/a>. The institution<a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/imf-applauds-nigerias-cbdc\"> positively assessed<\/a> the work done by the country&#8217;s authorities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Central banks will have to operate like businesses on CBDC-related matters.
