The view was voiced by the head of the <span data-descr=\\\"Monetary Authority of Singapore\\\" class=\\\"old_tooltip\\\">MAS<\/span> Ravi Menon, according to <a href=\\\"https:\/\/www.bnnbloomberg.ca\/singapore-central-banker-sees-private-cryptocurrencies-failing-1.2004145\\\">Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>During a panel discussion at an event in Hong Kong, the managing director of the Singapore central bank named three key components of the future monetary and financial system:<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<ul class=\\\"wp-block-list\\\">\\n<\/p>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-central-bank-digital-currency-cbdc\"><span data-descr=\\\"central bank digital currencies\\\" class=\\\"old_tooltip\\\">CBDC<\/span><\/a>;<\/li>\n<p>\\n<\/p>\n<li>tokenised bank obligations;<\/li>\n<p>\\n<\/p>\n<li>&#8220;well-regulated&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-are-stablecoins\">stablecoins<\/a>.<\/li>\n<p>\\n<\/ul>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>According to Menon, private digital currencies have completely failed the test as money:<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\"><p>\\n<\/p>\n<p>\\&#8221;No one stores their savings in these assets. People buy and sell them to make quick dollars.\\&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>He noted that regulators, by contrast, are moving toward creating a system of stablecoins backed by government securities or fiat currencies, which would enable the money supply to be used in the narrow sense.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\"><p>\\n<\/p>\n<p>\\&#8221;The advantage is that these are tokens and they can be used for a range of innovative applications,\\&#8221; emphasized Menon.<\/p>\n<p>\\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>In turn, his counterpart from the Reserve Bank of India forecast CBDC success. It will occur if digital assets meet users&#8217; unmet needs, based on available infrastructure, said deputy governor M. Rajeshwar Rao.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>The financier also pointed to a number of problems:<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\\\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\\\"><p>\\n<\/p>\n<p>\\&#8221;Data privacy is a concern. Cybersecurity and resilience are also critical issues that we must address so that CBDC can be trusted as much as cash.\\&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in July, the RBI <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/india-begins-talks-on-using-cbdc-with-18-countries\">was in talks<\/a> on using the digital rupee with at least 18 countries.<\/p>\n<p>\\n\\n<\/p>\n<p>MAS in August <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/singapore-regulator-completes-framework-for-stablecoins\">completed work<\/a> on the regulatory framework for stablecoins.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Private cryptocurrencies have failed the test for fundamental financial services and will not linger in the monetary space.
