{"id":87936,"date":"2023-12-07T09:54:58","date_gmt":"2023-12-07T07:54:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=87936"},"modified":"2025-09-13T14:54:46","modified_gmt":"2025-09-13T11:54:46","slug":"bitzlato-founder-pleads-guilty-to-laundering-700m-and-agrees-to-close-the-company","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/bitzlato-founder-pleads-guilty-to-laundering-700m-and-agrees-to-close-the-company\/","title":{"rendered":"Bitzlato founder pleads guilty to laundering $700m and agrees to close the company"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The founder of the Bitzlato crypto-exchange, Anatoly Legkodymov <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-edny\/pr\/founder-and-majority-owner-cryptocurrency-exchange-pleads-guilty-unlicensed-money\">pleaded guilty<\/a> to transferring and laundering criminal proceeds.<\/p>\n<p>According to prosecutors, the Russian national owned a controlling stake in the company, which served as a primary channel for darknet traders and ransomware operators.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the guilty-plea agreement, Legkodymov agreed to close Bitzlato and relinquish any claims to about $23 million related to <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitzlato-co-founder-cites-seized-funds-and-announces-restart\">the exchange&#8217;s seized assets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first details of a possible deal between the executive and prosecutors emerged <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/journalists-report-possible-deal-between-bitzlato-founder-and-prosecutors\">in April<\/a>, but at the time platform staff described it <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitzlato-says-reports-of-founders-deal-with-prosecutors-are-inaccurate\">as unreliable<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors noted that Bitzlato marketed itself as an exchange with minimal user identification and allowed accounts to be registered under fictitious identities. The prosecution added that the team knew the service was being used by criminals.<\/p>\n<p>Anatoly Legkodymov <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/us-authorities-arrest-founder-of-bitzlato-crypto-platform\">was arrested<\/a> in Miami on January 17.
