{"id":87960,"date":"2023-12-07T13:21:28","date_gmt":"2023-12-07T11:21:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=87960"},"modified":"2025-09-13T15:05:20","modified_gmt":"2025-09-13T12:05:20","slug":"worldcoin-launches-5-million-grant-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/worldcoin-launches-5-million-grant-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"Worldcoin launches $5 million grant programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Worldcoin, the company of Sam Altman, has announced the launch of a community grant programme, allocating an initial funding of 2 million WLD (~$4.8 million at the time of writing).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The Worldcoin Foundation has launched its Community Grants Program.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/bWb3jdl69V\">https:\/\/t.co\/bWb3jdl69V<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Worldcoin (@worldcoin) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/worldcoin\/status\/1732515767231410566?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 6, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The initiative features three tracks:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Community grants (up to 5,000 WLD) \u2014 for organizers of events, hackathons and other similar gatherings;<\/li>\n<li>Project grants (up to 25,000 WLD) \u2014 for companies that submitted a request for development funding;<\/li>\n<li>Open-type grants (no set budget) \u2014 for the most \u201csignificant and ambitious projects\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Funds are provided to startups working on applications and the World ID protocol itself, as well as hardware for the platform.<\/p>\n<p>The company also proposed focusing on privacy services, identity-verification software development and \u201cuser experience\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Applications for grants can be submitted from 6 to 22 December, and winners will be announced in January 2024.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;A robust grant programme is essential for the overall health and growth of the Worldcoin community. It expands opportunities and supports creators from around the world, funding the development and implementation of the most interesting, creative and useful community projects,&#8221; according to the press release.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The project&#8217;s main product\u2014the World ID protocol\u2014is based on <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-zero-knowledge-proof\">zero-knowledge proofs<\/a>. It is a tool that enables identity verification using biometric data or a phone number.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Altman <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/sam-altman-acknowledges-problems-at-worldcoin\">acknowledged<\/a> the existence of issues at Worldcoin.
