We are re-examining this issue in light of court rulings,<\/em> he explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Gensler did not mention <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/court-orders-sec-to-reconsider-grayscales-spot-bitcoin-etf-application\">Grayscale<\/a>&#8216;s victory in the GBTC conversion case into an exchange-traded fund.<\/p>\n<p>When asked for clarification, he said the SEC is guided by &#8216;the laws enacted by Congress and how courts interpret them&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>In another interview on the same day, Gensler <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/sec-chair-declines-to-discuss-bitcoin-etf\">refused to discuss<\/a> bitcoin ETFs. He cited low priority and said cryptocurrencies have harmed many investors.<\/p>\n<p>More than a dozen proposals to register exchange-traded funds based on the spot price of Bitcoin are under consideration by the SEC.<\/p>\n<p>Among the applicants are BlackRock, Grayscale, Franklin Templeton and Fidelity, whose representatives in early December <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/sec-weighs-spot-bitcoin-etf-launches-with-several-issuers\">continued discussions<\/a> about potential product launches with the regulator.<\/p>\n<p>The process <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/blackrock-and-sec-discuss-redemption-mechanics-for-a-bitcoin-etf\">began in November<\/a> and, according to experts, <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/reuters-reports-active-sec-talks-with-bitcoin-etf-issuers\">has moved into the final stage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Gensler repeatedly stated that cryptocurrencies <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/gensler-backs-secs-push-to-regulate-the-bitcoin-industry\">are securities<\/a> and should be regulated by the SEC. The head of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, Rostin Behnam, by contrast, <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/cftc-chief-says-most-cryptocurrencies-are-commodities\">considers<\/a> most digital assets as commodities.<\/p>\n<p>As noted by the SEC chairman, the global economy <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/gensler-questions-the-need-for-cryptocurrencies\">does not need<\/a> cryptocurrencies, and they can <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/sec-chair-warns-of-harm-to-the-economy-from-cryptocurrencies\">harm it<\/a>.
