{"id":88846,"date":"2023-12-29T11:38:25","date_gmt":"2023-12-29T09:38:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=88846"},"modified":"2025-09-13T20:29:57","modified_gmt":"2025-09-13T17:29:57","slug":"baidus-ernie-bot-surpasses-100-million-users-in-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/baidus-ernie-bot-surpasses-100-million-users-in-china\/","title":{"rendered":"Baidu&#8217;s Ernie Bot Surpasses 100 Million Users in China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since its launch in August, Baidu&#8217;s Ernie Bot has attracted more than 100 million users, according to the company&#8217;s chief technology officer, Hai-Feng Wang, as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/baidus-chatgpt-like-ernie-bot-has-more-than-100-mln-users-cto-2023-12-28\/\">Reuters<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Baidu&#8217;s search engine accounts for more than 76% of China&#8217;s internet market, which counts about 705 million users out of 1.4 billion people living in the country. In other words, Ernie Bot covers roughly 7% of the population.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the AI-based Baidu chatbot is available only to Chinese residents, as registration requires a local phone number.<\/p>\n<p>ChatGPT reached 100 million users in two months after launch; Ernie Bot took four. Given its localization, this is a competitive figure.<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/telegram.org\/js\/telegram-widget.js?22\" data-telegram-post=\"forklogAI\/3556\" data-width=\"100%\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>According to a rating by the agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.superclueai.com\/\">SuperCLUE<\/a>, Ernie Bot leads among all Chinese chatbots, but its score of 79.02 points is ten points lower than GPT-4 Turbo.<\/p>\n<p>Baidu&#8217;s Chief Executive Robin Li has repeatedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/chinas-baidu-beats-quarterly-revenue-estimates-announces-share-buyback-2023-02-22\/\">stated the potential<\/a> of Ernie Bot and related products, which could help the company win market share in its core areas of business, including search, cloud services and smart cars.<\/p>\n<p>In October the company unveiled an improved language model, Ernie 4.0, comparing its power with ChatGPT.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_IaycD0HbxQ?si=LgAtOh4qIT-ooGaT\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThis is our most powerful model to date, featuring comprehensive improvements to core capabilities: understanding, generation, reasoning and memory. It outperforms the online version of the Ernie bot and is on par with GPT-4 in overall performance,\u201d Li said at the presentation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On 30 August, Chinese companies \u2014 Baidu, Baichuan Intelligent Technology, SenseTime and ZhipuAI \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/four-chinese-firms-launch-chatgpt-like-ai-chatbots\">launched their own chatbots<\/a> after government approval.
