Network nodes automatically accepted it as correct, cancelling previous blocks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A researcher known as Rucknium <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/monero-project\/monero\/issues\/10064#issuecomment-3289895158\">confirmed<\/a> the incident on GitHub. A crypto podcaster under the pseudonym Xenu described the event as &#8220;the largest reorganisation in Monero&#8217;s history.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Monero was hit by an 18 block reorg a few hours ago, which invalidated 118 transactions. This is the largest reorg in Monero&#8217;s history. Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/ru.tradingview.com\/chart\/?symbol=KRAKEN%3AXMRUSD\">TradingView<\/a>.\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Xenu suggested that the Qubic team is attempting to create mechanisms to &#8220;halt the coin&#8217;s collapse.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Community Reaction\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>An analyst known as Vini Barbosa questioned the reliability of the Monero network and stopped accepting payments in XMR &#8220;until developers resolve the issue.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Monero is still suffering from the selfish mining attacks<\/p>\n<p>An 18-block-deep reorg recently hit the chain.<br \/>Affected blocks were 3499659 \u2192 3499676.<br \/>A massive amount of transactions were invalidated.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I don&#8217;t consider the Monero network reliable at this point. That&#8217;s not the case. I&#8217;m simply reacting to the current situation, which I didn&#8217;t create, stating a fact and making a personal decision, prioritising my financial security,&#8221; he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Rucknium believes Monero will have to sacrifice decentralisation to counteract Qubic&#8217;s influence. He suggests that node operators are likely to start using <span data-descr=\"Domain Name System\" class=\"old_tooltip\">DNS<\/span> checkpoints\u2014a mechanism where nodes download verified block data from trusted community servers. This could be a temporary solution to prevent further chain reorganisations.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;If the Monero community does not take this issue seriously, the project will forever remain at risk of sudden collapse,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/evilcos\/status\/1967168465913196808\">warned<\/a> SlowMist founder Yu Xian.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Back in August, the Qubic team <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/qubic-mining-pool-seizes-control-of-monero\">claimed<\/a> to have captured a significant portion of the network&#8217;s hashrate. Researchers <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/researchers-debunk-alleged-51-attack-on-monero\">refuted<\/a> a 51% attack on Monero, but the community expressed concern and <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/monero-community-explores-new-defenses-against-51-attacks\">began<\/a> exploring the possibility of upgrading the Proof-of-Work consensus algorithm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Monero network underwent a rollback of 18 blocks, rendering 117 transactions invalid.
