As part of the deal, Nvidia will acquire a stake in OpenAI.<\/p>\n<p>The parties will deploy data centers with a capacity of 10 GW, aiming to overcome the industry&#8217;s main constraint: the lack of computing resources for training complex models.<\/p>\n<p>By expanding its infrastructure, OpenAI plans to develop advanced features\u2014from complex logical inference and multimodal data processing to systems for deep document analysis. The partners believe this will not only reduce the cost of AI-based solutions but also accelerate their transition from laboratories to real-world business applications.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/video\/2025\/09\/22\/nvidia-ceo-on-the-100-billion-investment-in-openai-this-partnership-is-monumental-in-size.html\">CNBC<\/a>, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described the deal as the next breakthrough in artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;We are talking about the beginning of an industrial revolution in AI,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman emphasized that the new computing infrastructure will be the foundation of the future economy.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Everything starts with computing. Our work with Nvidia aims to achieve new breakthroughs in artificial intelligence and their widespread adoption for people and businesses,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The company&#8217;s president, Greg Brockman, confirmed plans to scale the benefits of the technology for a wide range of users.<\/p>\n<p>The first phase of the project is expected to be operational in the second half of 2026 on Nvidia&#8217;s Vera Rubin platform.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Threat to the Planet?<\/h2>\n<p>Deploying 10 GW of computing power is no simple task and far from the most environmentally friendly.<\/p>\n<p>According to energy consultancy <a href=\"https:\/\/174powerglobal.com\/blog\/hyperscale-data-centers-energy-challenges-and-sustainable-solutions\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">174 Power Global<\/a>, cooling systems alone for such a facility could account for up to 40% of its energy consumption.<\/p>\n<p>Deloitte experts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deloitte.com\/us\/en\/insights\/industry\/technology\/technology-media-and-telecom-predictions\/2025\/genai-power-consumption-creates-need-for-more-sustainable-data-centers.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">warned<\/a> that by the end of 2025, data centers will account for about 2% of global electricity consumption (536 TWh). Demand from energy-intensive AI could increase this figure to over 1000 TWh by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>According to UN estimates, a request to ChatGPT <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unep.org\/news-and-stories\/story\/ai-has-environmental-problem-heres-what-world-can-do-about?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">consumes<\/a> ten times more energy than a Google search. Meanwhile, cooling data centers requires an amount of water comparable to six times Denmark&#8217;s total consumption.<\/p>\n<p>Calculations by the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research indicate that in 2018, the US <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eesi.org\/articles\/view\/data-center-energy-needs-are-upending-power-grids-and-threatening-the-climate?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">had<\/a> 1,000 data centers with a combined consumption of 11 GW (1.9% of total US electricity consumption and 31.5 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions). By 2025, their number exceeded 5,000.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;As data centers proliferate, their contribution to carbon emissions is steadily increasing.
