It also enables <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-are-ai-agents-and-how-do-they-make-life-easier-for-web3-users\">AI agents<\/a> to conduct autonomous transactions.<\/p>\n<p>Coinbase <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/coinbase-unveils-payment-technology-for-ai-agents\">introduced<\/a> the project in May. The solution is based on the HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP), which is used for data exchange between web browsers and servers.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is activity on x402 increasing?\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KuCoinVentures\/status\/1981613135460237654\">KuCoin Ventures<\/a>, developers have begun using the protocol to launch meme coins. Data aggregator CoinGecko has already added a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coingecko.com\/en\/categories\/x402-ecosystem\">category<\/a> for coins created on the x402 platform.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The sector&#8217;s market capitalization rose by 345% in a day, reaching $770 million. [&#8230;] x402 has become a working tool \u2014 the community is turning it into a launchpad killer. New crazy combinations are ahead,&#8221; noted KuCoin Ventures.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Abstract project programmer Jarrod Watts explained the interest in the protocol by its advantages over traditional payment methods. According to him, the latter require constant human involvement: registration, use of bank cards, and management of <span data-descr=\"application programming interface\" class=\"old_tooltip\">API<\/span> keys.<\/p>\n<p>x402 removes these barriers by embedding payment directly into HTTP requests.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"zxx\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9WKdEpQAhq\">https:\/\/t.co\/9WKdEpQAhq<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jarrod Watts (@jarrodWattsDev) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jarrodWattsDev\/status\/1982036553481568512?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 25, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use Cases<\/h2>\n<p>Discussing the emergence of a range of coins based on x402, the expert highlighted three main application scenarios:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Specialized tokens of API providers.<\/strong> Some services may require payment in their own tokens instead of stablecoins.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Facilitator assets.<\/strong> Payment infrastructure providers may launch their own tokens for service payments.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Speculation.<\/strong> A repeat of the previous AI hype scenario, where coins with minimal practical value reached billion-dollar capitalizations.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;I suspect we will see a new wave of AI coins in the coming weeks. Again, they are likely to be utterly meaningless, but &#8216;would you rather be right or rich?'&#8221; he wrote.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The sharp rise in activity on x402 also coincided with the publication of <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/a16z-stablecoins-have-taken-crypto-mainstream\">a16z&#8217;s 2025 report<\/a>.
