{"id":90526,"date":"2025-10-31T19:44:30","date_gmt":"2025-10-31T17:44:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=90526"},"modified":"2025-10-31T18:45:28","modified_gmt":"2025-10-31T16:45:28","slug":"standard-chartered-projects-rwa-market-capitalization-to-reach-2-trillion-by-2028","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/standard-chartered-projects-rwa-market-capitalization-to-reach-2-trillion-by-2028\/","title":{"rendered":"Standard Chartered Projects RWA Market Capitalization to Reach $2 Trillion by 2028"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By 2028, the total market value of tokenized real-world assets (<a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-are-rwas-real-world-assets\">RWA<\/a>), excluding <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-are-stablecoins\">stablecoins<\/a>, is expected to grow to $2 trillion, according to a report by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblock.co\/post\/377059\/standard-chartered-tokenized-rwa-2-trillion-2028-ethereum\">The Block<\/a> citing Standard Chartered.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jeffrey Kendrick, head of digital asset research at the bank, noted that the rise in popularity of stablecoins has laid the groundwork for the segment&#8217;s development.<\/p>\n<p>The forecast suggests that most RWA activity will continue to occur on Ethereum due to the blockchain&#8217;s reliability. Kendrick emphasized that the network has operated without failures in the mainnet for over 10 years.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe fact that other blockchains are faster or cheaper, in our view, does not matter,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In the anticipated $2 trillion market volume of tokenized assets by 2028, the main shares will be:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>money market funds \u2014 $750 billion (thanks to corporations using stablecoins);<\/li>\n<li>tradable company stocks \u2014 $750 billion (following the introduction of DeFi regulation in the US);<\/li>\n<li>less liquid segments of private equity, commodities, corporate debt, and real estate \u2014 $250 million.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to RWA.xyz, the current total on-chain value of the RWA segment is approximately $35.7 billion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The market capitalization of stablecoins <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/stablecoin-market-capitalisation-surpasses-300-billion\">exceeds $300 billion<\/a>. In April, Standard Chartered specialists also <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/standard-chartered-predicts-stablecoin-market-cap-to-reach-2-trillion-by-2028\">forecasted<\/a> the growth of this figure to $2 trillion by 2028.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">DeFi to Challenge TradFi<\/h2>\n<p>During the initial years of decentralized finance, it was primarily used by \u201ccrypto natives\u201d for trading, lending, and borrowing, Kendrick noted. However, the growth in the liquidity of the stablecoin market has led to increased activity and the number of assets used in operations.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cStablecoins have created several necessary prerequisites for the broader adoption of DeFi through three pillars: increased awareness, on-chain liquidity, and lending\/borrowing activity in fiat-pegged products,\u201d the expert believes.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In his assessment, DeFi platforms are already capable of competing with TradFi companies in two key areas: lending and RWA.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cIf tokenized products can be traded on DEX, it could be disruptive to the operation of stock exchanges,\u201d Kendrick stated.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Additional advantages of decentralized finance include unique options for digital assets such as <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-staking-and-how-to-make-money-from-it\">staking<\/a>, he added.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kendrick, in DeFi \u201cliquidity generates new products, which in turn produce new liquidity.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cWe believe that a self-sustaining growth cycle has begun,\u201d emphasized the Standard Chartered representative.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The adoption of DeFi in both retail and institutional markets in the US was stimulated by the enactment of the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/donald-trump-enacts-stablecoin-legislation\">Genius Act<\/a>, which established a regulatory framework for stablecoins.
