The digital gold twice dipped below $100,000. <\/p>\n<p>Monday opened with a cascade of selling that lasted through Wednesday, 5 November. That day <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/extreme-fear-bitcoin-slips-below-the-100000-psychological-mark\">saw<\/a> the first test of the psychological mark. Daily liquidations topped $1.78bn.<\/p>\n<p>The asset then recovered modestly to $105,000, but on Friday there <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitcoin-falls-below-100000\">was<\/a> another pullback to $99,000. Its market capitalisation is $2.04trn.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin dragged other assets lower, some even harder. Ethereum briefly fell to $3,000. Monero rose 23%, and Decred 100%.<\/p>\n<p>The sell-off also coincided with outflows from <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-cryptocurrency-etf\">ETF<\/a>s. A string of hacks was to blame.<\/p>\n<p>On 3 November, news emerged of a breach at the DeFi protocol Balancer. The attackers drained at least $128m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/img-fa0fd8261b4ae3a6-9093693133848603.webp\" alt=\"image\" class=\"wp-image-269292\" style=\"width:241px;height:auto\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PeckShieldAlert\/status\/1985281156259201044\/photo\/1\">X<\/a>.\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The attackers likely exploited a vulnerability in Balancer V2 pools. They created a malicious contract that fooled the system when new liquidity pools were set up. The network was halted to fix a vulnerability in the native <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-decentralised-exchange-dex\">decentralised exchange<\/a> BEX. The move is intended to block stolen tokens from leaving the network and to prevent repeat incidents.<\/p>\n<p>Hot on its heels, the Stream Finance protocol was attacked. On 4 November the project <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/stream-finance-halts-operations-following-93-million-loss\">suspended<\/a> withdrawals and deposits, reporting $93m in lost assets.<\/p>\n<p>Its Staked Stream USD (xUSD) token subsequently lost its peg.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/img-8d6ce981c20bb969-9093693455218632.webp\" alt=\"image\" class=\"wp-image-269294\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PeckShieldAlert\/status\/1985536122966167878?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1985536122966167878%7Ctwgr%5Ead6c126fe790b8bab351e868baad6f97d0fd02d6%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fforklog.com%2Fnews%2Fstream-finance-priostanovil-rabotu-posle-poteri-93-mln\">X<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Analysts at YieldsAndMore <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/collateral-damage-from-stream-finance-hack-estimated-at-285-million\">suggested<\/a> these incidents could trigger cascading liquidations and collateral issues. They estimated potential knock-on losses at $285m.<\/p>\n<p>By their account, xUSD\u2019s collapse affected several stablecoins, including deUSD and scUSD, as well as treasuries. Tokens at risk include <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/delta%e2%80%91neutral-synthetic-dollars-why-the-usde-stablecoin-matters\">\u2018synthetic\u2019<\/a> xUSD, xBTC and xETH.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Their suspicions were confirmed a few days later. On 6 November the USDX \u2018stablecoin\u2019 from Stable Labs <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/usdx-stablecoin-loses-its-dollar-peg-drops-to-0-30\">lost<\/a> its US dollar peg. The measure passed by a majority.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Elixir protocol said it would cease supporting its deUSD stablecoin due to the Stream Finance hack. According to the team, around 80% of tokens have already been repurchased from holders at 1:1 in USDC.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to discuss with friends?\u00a0<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tesla will <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/musk-teases-a-flying-tesla-for-2025\">release<\/a> a \u2018flying car\u2019.<\/li>\n<li>A Spanish institute will <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/spanish-institute-to-sell-97-btc-acquired-13-years-ago\">sell<\/a> 97 BTC bought 13 years ago.<\/li>\n<li>Experts <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/analysts-see-nothing-unusual-in-bitcoins-19-pullback-from-its-peak\">found<\/a> nothing unusual in bitcoin\u2019s 19% correction from its peak.<\/li>\n<li>Google will <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/google-to-integrate-polymarket-and-kalshi-data-into-search\">add<\/a> Polymarket and Kalshi data to Search.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Plenty of transactions per second<\/h2>\n<p>Though Ethereum\u2019s market performance has been uninspiring, its on-chain metrics are hitting records.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Ethereum ecosystem set a new all-time high for transactions per second (TPS). After including data from the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-layer%e2%80%912-solution-in-blockchain\">L2<\/a> network run by the Lighter DEX, the metric <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-ecosystem-achieves-record-24000-tps\">reached<\/a> 24,192.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/img-f167590028319040-9093693344228542.webp\" alt=\"image\" class=\"wp-image-269286\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: Growthepie.\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lighter alone processes over 4,000 TPS. The nearest competitor \u2014 Base \u2014 manages just 112 TPS.<\/p>\n<p>The technological basis for the new record were the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/pectra-steering-ethereum-toward-scale-and-mass-adoption\">Pectra<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/how-the-dencun-hard-fork-will-change-ethereum\">Dencun<\/a> hard forks, which significantly increased layer-two transaction throughput.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bankless host Ryan Sean Adams noted that L2s have boosted Ethereum\u2019s scalability 200x since October. He linked this to the spread of <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-zero-knowledge-proof\">ZK<\/a> technologies and suggested 100,000 TPS could be reached in the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin commented on the milestone, stressing that the network is \u201cscaling\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Also this week the Ethereum Foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-foundation-revamps-grant-program\">relaunched<\/a> its grants programme. The new model implies a \u201cproactive approach\u201d to supporting projects.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative aims to solve resource constraints by moving from a reactive to a proactive approach. He was also ordered to pay a $250,000 fine.<\/p>\n<p>Sentencing of the wallet\u2019s other co-founder, William Hill, is scheduled for 19 November.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Before the hearing, the prosecution <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/samourai-wallet-founders-accused-of-deliberate-money-laundering\">submitted<\/a> a memo to the judge stating that the defendants \u201crepeatedly incited, encouraged and urged criminals\u201d to use their platform to hide illicit funds.<\/p>\n<p>The document included screenshots of chats and posts in which Rodriguez called cryptocurrency mixing \u201cmoney laundering\u201d. Source: court documents.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Earlier, Rodriguez and Hill <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/samourai-wallet-founders-admit-to-money-laundering-charges\">struck a deal<\/a> with law enforcement, partially pleading guilty to creating an unlicensed service that helped launder millions of dollars in criminal proceeds.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kazakhstan\u2019s bitcoin reserve\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Timur Suleimenov, head of Kazakhstan\u2019s central bank, <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/kazakhstan-to-establish-bitcoin-reserve-worth-up-to-1-billion\">announced<\/a> the creation of a state crypto reserve worth $500m to $1bn.<\/p>\n<p>The fund will launch in 2026. It will be operated by the country\u2019s main platform for blockchain development, the Astana International Financial Centre. The reserve will be built on digital assets seized in criminal cases related to illegal mining and trading.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle does not intend to buy crypto directly, but to invest via exchange-traded funds.<\/p>\n<p>Management will be assumed by a state investment platform. Foreign partners may be brought in after launch. The crypto fund will be part of Kazakhstan\u2019s strategy to institutionalise the crypto industry.<\/p>\n<p>Suleimenov first <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/kazakhstan-endorses-reserve-of-seized-bitcoins\">said<\/a> in June that confiscated bitcoins would be used to build the reserve.
