The project will commence with the establishment of specialized data centers in Texas and New York.

For the first time, Anthropic is building its own AI infrastructure.

We’re constructing data centers in Texas and New York that will create thousands of American jobs.

This is a $50 billion investment in America.https://t.co/hmJXNODQsG

— Anthropic (@AnthropicAI) November 12, 2025

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with Fluidstack, a cloud platform for artificial intelligence that supplies large-scale GPU clusters to various clients such as Meta, Midjourney, and Mistral.

The first facilities are expected to be operational in 2026. The project is anticipated to create 800 permanent jobs and 2,400 in construction.

“We are approaching the advent of artificial intelligence capable of accelerating scientific discoveries and solving complex problems in new ways. To realize this potential, infrastructure is needed that can support continuous development at the cutting edge,” said Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.

He added that the new facilities will help create more powerful AI systems while simultaneously providing jobs.

Others Are Not Idle

Anthropic’s announcement comes amid moves by competitors advancing their own initiatives.

OpenAI has struck deals with Nvidia, Broadcom, Oracle, and other giants totaling over $1 trillion to build facilities powering artificial intelligence technologies.

Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, and Amazon have raised their capital expenditure forecasts to $380 billion by 2025. The scale of such investments increasingly raises questions about the presence of a bubble in the sector.

Baidu founder Robin Li emphasized that the key beneficiaries of the AI boom are currently chip manufacturers, not application developers.

Only Losses So Far

Large investments by AI startups in infrastructure have yet to pay off. Anthropic serves over 300 enterprises, with the number of clients generating more than $100,000 increasing nearly sevenfold over the past year. However, the company expects to break even only by 2028.

The firm is potentially set to outpace OpenAI, which forecasts operating losses of $74 billion in the same year due to rising computing costs.

The creator of ChatGPT anticipates spending approximately 14 times more than Anthropic before reaching profitability by 2030.

Despite large expenditures, AI startups continue to grow in value, reaching trillion-dollar valuations. OpenAI is preparing for a public offering valued at $1 trillion, which could become one of the largest IPOs in history.

China Lags Behind

Significant investments in infrastructure allow American AI startups to play the long game, forming long-term, steadily increasing revenue streams. Chinese competitors have a different approach and, consequently, different results.

As of August, only four AI applications from private Chinese companies made it into the top 100 by annual recurring revenue. Glority, Plaud, ByteDance, and Zuoyebang collectively earned $447 million—just 1.23% of the total $36.4 billion.

Tech Buzz China co-founder Rui Ma explained the imbalance by the structure of China’s economy—local startups aim to earn quickly, thus favoring short-term projects like government sector contracts.

“Attracting global consumers and enterprises requires much more capital,” she said.

Chinese companies find it harder to raise funds in domestic markets, Ma added.

Microsoft’s Cunning Plan

Microsoft has decided to take a different route, leveraging OpenAI’s efforts to strengthen its position in semiconductors instead of making multibillion-dollar investments.

The idea is this: Sam Altman’s startup develops AI chips in collaboration with Broadcom, and the Windows creator applies the ready-made technologies.

“As they innovate even at the system level, we gain access to everything,” explained Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

In October, Microsoft and OpenAI announced a revision of their partnership terms. Under the updated agreement, the Windows developer’s stake in Altman’s AI startup stands at 27% and is valued at $135 billion.

The revised contract secures Microsoft’s status as OpenAI’s “partner for advanced models” and retains exclusive licenses to the startup’s neural network intellectual property and products until 2032.

In September, Anthropic introduced a new AI model, Claude Sonnet 4.5, which demonstrates advanced capabilities in programming.
