In late August, authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-shields-its-6284-btc-from-quantum-threat\">distributed<\/a> these funds across 14 new addresses due to potential threats from quantum computing.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement coincided with a dip in the value of digital gold <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitcoin-falls-below-90000-for-the-first-time-in-seven-months\">below $90,000<\/a>. Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/ru.tradingview.com\/chart\/atJ4mYHE\/?symbol=BINANCE%3ABTCUSDT\">TradingView<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Contradictions<\/h2>\n<p>It remains unclear whether El Salvador is indeed continuing to purchase the leading cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<p>In August, the <span data-descr=\"International Monetary Fund\" class=\"old_tooltip\">IMF<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/imf-denies-el-salvadors-bitcoin-purchases\">stated<\/a> that since the agreement on the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-augments-bitcoin-reserves-by-19-btc\">loan program<\/a> in December 2024, the government had not acquired Bitcoin. It allegedly does not track how many bitcoins are held in user accounts, nor does it adjust its reserves accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>Since the application does not sell cryptocurrency, minor discrepancies arise\u2014usually no more than 1%. This may give the impression that the state is accumulating cryptocurrency, although this is not the case.<\/p>\n<p>Bukele, in response to IMF demands, stated he does not intend to halt the purchase of digital gold.<\/p>\n<p>However, his words contradict an official statement sent by El Salvador&#8217;s finance minister <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-marks-bitcoin-law-anniversary-with-21-btc-purchase\">to<\/a> the International Monetary Fund in July, which noted that the authorities had ceased increasing their crypto reserves in February.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2021, the country has also been <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-begins-bitcoin-mining-on-volcano-powered-energy\">engaged<\/a> in mining digital assets using geothermal volcanic energy. It is possible that cryptocurrency could be entering the state&#8217;s balance in this manner.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2023, El Salvador <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-launches-its-own-bitcoin-mining-pool\">launched<\/a> its own mining pool, Lava Pool.
