The protocol aims to unify the fragmented second-layer ecosystem into a &#8220;single chain.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;Our vision is for users to interact with the entire <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-layer%e2%80%912-solution-in-blockchain\"><em>L2<\/em><\/a><em> ecosystem as a single Ethereum network. No complex <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-are-cross-chain-bridges\"><em>bridges<\/em><\/a><em>, multiple chain names, or divided balances. The Ethereum Interop Layer is designed to restore a sense of unity without sacrificing decentralization and security,&#8221; the project&#8217;s blog states.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>EIL implements a &#8220;wallet-centric&#8221; approach, where users sign a single transaction for trustless cross-network operations. The solution is built on the method of <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-account-abstraction\">account abstraction<\/a> and the principles of the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/vitalik-buterin-declares-defi-sector-mature-and-secure\">&#8220;Trust Manifesto&#8221;<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The fragmentation issue arose as a result of Ethereum&#8217;s successful scaling through <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-are-rollups-and-how-do-they-scale-ethereum\">rollups<\/a>. Currently, users must manage balances across different blockchains, choose bridges, and track which L2 solution holds their assets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The goal of EIL is to make the wallet a single point of access to the ecosystem of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, with automatic support for new compatible networks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Use cases include:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>transferring <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-the-usdc-stablecoin\">USDC<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-arbitrum\">Arbitrum<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-base-coinbases-l2\">Base<\/a> with one click;<\/li>\n<li>creating <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-are-nfts\">NFTs<\/a> on Linea with automatic balance consolidation from different networks;<\/li>\n<li>automatic coin swaps using liquidity on <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-optimism-op\">Optimism<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>EF compared the Interop Layer to the HTTP protocol of the early internet\u2014just as browsers unified disparate servers, EIL will unify L2 networks into a single space. This will accelerate the adoption of new rollups and allow developers to focus on user experience rather than cross-network integration.<\/p>\n<p>The protocol is already available for testing and open for integration by wallets, <span data-descr=\"decentralized application\" class=\"old_tooltip\">dApp<\/span> developers, and second-layer solution creators.<\/p>\n<p>The head of cross-network interaction at <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-zksync\">ZKsync<\/a>, Noah Pravec, praised the new product from the Ethereum Foundation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;We are thrilled with the L1 Interop solution. It allows users of <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-zero-knowledge-proof\"><em>ZK<\/em><\/a><em>-based projects to access DeFi on the first layer in 2-5 minutes\u2014faster than the time to finality in the main ETH network,&#8221; <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/zksync\/status\/1990873224943681764\"><em>he noted<\/em><\/a><em>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ethereum Need Not Change<\/h2>\n<p>Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has called for an end to constant changes in Ethereum&#8217;s base layer. This was reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dlnews.com\/articles\/defi\/ethereum-cofounder-vitalik-buterin-favours-ossification\/\">DL News<\/a>, citing the programmer&#8217;s speech at the Devconnect conference in Buenos Aires.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He advocated for &#8220;ossification&#8221;\u2014locking down core protocol functions to prevent changes that could lead to vulnerabilities.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;Gradual ossification is beneficial for Ethereum. We now have far fewer surprises,&#8221; said Buterin.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The programmer clarified that this process can occur at different levels and at varying speeds. For instance, while locking the consensus level, the virtual machine <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-the-ethereum-virtual-machine-evm\">EVM<\/a> can retain its functionality.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the main goal is not to stifle innovation but to redirect it from the base layer to the peripheral ecosystem: L2 solutions, wallets, privacy tools, and user applications.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Quantum Threat\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Buterin also expressed concern about the development of quantum computing. He noted that as the technology advances, the elliptic cryptography underpinning the security of Ethereum and Bitcoin becomes more vulnerable.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;Elliptic curves are doomed,&#8221; declared the programmer, suggesting that quantum computers could breach the current security model by the next U.S. presidential election in 2028.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ethereum has about four years to transition to quantum-resistant algorithms, assuming the development of relevant technologies aligns with current forecasts.<\/p>\n<p>Back in November, Bitcoin maximalist Adam Back <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/adam-back-dismisses-quantum-threat-to-bitcoin-as-overstated\">called<\/a> the quantum threat exaggerated.
