The non-profit Ethereum Foundation (EF) has shared<\/a> details of the upcoming launch of the Interop Layer (EIL). The protocol aims to unify the fragmented second-layer ecosystem into a “single chain.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Our vision is for users to interact with the entire <\/em>L2<\/em><\/a> ecosystem as a single Ethereum network. No complex <\/em>bridges<\/em><\/a>, multiple chain names, or divided balances. The Ethereum Interop Layer is designed to restore a sense of unity without sacrificing decentralization and security,” the project’s blog states.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

EIL implements a “wallet-centric” approach, where users sign a single transaction for trustless cross-network operations. The solution is built on the method of account abstraction<\/a> and the principles of the “Trust Manifesto”<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The fragmentation issue arose as a result of Ethereum’s successful scaling through rollups<\/a>. Currently, users must manage balances across different blockchains, choose bridges, and track which L2 solution holds their assets.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The goal of EIL is to make the wallet a single point of access to the ecosystem of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, with automatic support for new compatible networks.\u00a0<\/p>\n
