In this same composition, the authorities imposed a <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/pboc-views-cryptocurrencies-as-a-threat-to-the-traditional-financial-system\">de facto ban<\/a> on cryptocurrency trading in 2021.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cVirtual assets do not have the same legal status as fiat, are not legal tender, and should not and cannot be used as currency in the market,\u201d stated the PBOC.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Officials also noted their intention to \u201cstrictly crack down on illegal and criminal activities\u201d in this area.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was convened amid a \u201cresurgence of speculative activity\u201d with digital assets. The report emphasizes that previous bans on crypto trading and mining have \u201celiminated market chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stablecoins have drawn particular attention from the central bank. The PBOC pointed out their non-compliance with anti-money laundering standards and their particular popularity among fraudsters.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Local authorities appear unwilling to soften their rhetoric regarding digital assets. In August 2025, Chinese agencies <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/chinas-regulators-clamp-down-on-stablecoin-promotion-reports-bloomberg\">demanded<\/a> that brokerage firms and research centers cancel seminars and cease publishing studies on \u201cstablecoins.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, in September, the China Banking Regulatory Commission unofficially instructed several local brokers to suspend <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-are-rwas-real-world-assets\">RWA<\/a> business in Hong Kong.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Despite strict regulation, the country&#8217;s share of the bitcoin mining hash rate <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/chinas-share-in-bitcoin-mining-surpasses-14\">exceeded<\/a> 14%.
