Investor Mark Moss reinforced those doubts by posting a screenshot of a marketing agency\u2019s paid-promotion pitch for the cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Zcash\u2019s star turn\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Since October, Zcash has jumped 1,500%, peaking in November at <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitcoin-maximalists-clash-with-zcash-advocates-amid-price-surge\">$723<\/a>. The asset\u2019s market capitalisation topped $11bn \u2014 by that measure it <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/zcash-overtakes-monero-by-market-capitalisation\">overtook<\/a> the sector\u2019s near-permanent leader, Monero (XMR). For a time, ZEC also sat in the top 20 cryptocurrencies by market value.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>BitMEX\u2019s co-founder <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/zcash-celebrates-anniversary-with-470-surge\">predicted<\/a> a run to $10,000. Mumtaz <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/zcash-price-surges-700-amid-rising-demand-for-privacy\">claimed<\/a> the privacy coin would overtake XRP by market cap.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Analysts linked the rise in Zcash to heightened demand for confidentiality amid contentious <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/pavel-durov-warns-of-the-imminent-demise-of-the-free-internet\">initiatives<\/a> such as the EU\u2019s \u201cchat control\u201d bill, the introduction of <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/id-please-the-global-roll-out-of-digital-identity\">digital IDs<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/eu-to-ban-private-tokens-by-2027\">a ban<\/a> in Europe on anonymous crypto accounts and the use of privacy coins.<\/p>\n<p>The amount of ZEC in the Sprout, Sapling and Orchard shielded pools <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/arthur-hayes-urges-zcash-holders-to-pull-assets-off-centralized-exchanges\">reached<\/a> a record 4.9m tokens \u2014 more than 20% of total supply. In his view, the coin is already an alternative to digital gold. The community <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitcoin-maximalists-clash-with-zcash-advocates-amid-price-surge\">argued at length<\/a> about this. Critics <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/analysts-warn-zcash-could-plunge-after-a-1500-surge\">warned<\/a> from the outset of a painful crash.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is the rally over?\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>At the time of writing, ZEC trades at $334. Technician Duo Nine <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DU09BTC\/status\/1995384953417474245\">believes<\/a> Zcash supporters intentionally pumped the coin to find \u201cexit liquidity\u201d. A user going by TXMC <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TXMCtrades\/status\/1995337756046766243\">linked<\/a> the drop to the end of a marketing campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A trader known as nextfuckingthing described it this way:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cOpinion leaders who sucked all the money out of this cycle lost a huge part of their assets. Looks organic. \u2018This is the best version of bitcoin,\u2019 they said. \u2018This is the bitcoin we always needed.\u2019 They recouped their losses, and you became a community member. At least your losses are not visible on-chain. You got caught again.
