{"id":92677,"date":"2025-12-26T13:22:19","date_gmt":"2025-12-26T10:22:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/?p=92677"},"modified":"2025-12-26T13:25:17","modified_gmt":"2025-12-26T10:25:17","slug":"aave-holders-reject-transfer-of-brand-control-to-dao","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/aave-holders-reject-transfer-of-brand-control-to-dao\/","title":{"rendered":"AAVE Holders Reject Transfer of Brand Control to DAO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Participants in the Aave ecosystem <a href=\"https:\/\/snapshot.org\/#\/s:aavedao.eth\/proposal\/0xbc606159ddeae0184c2086055637d3f357351ec0adc4c9f4150751bc41918eba\">voted<\/a> against an initiative to transfer the protocol&#8217;s brand control to a <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-dao-decentralised-autonomous-organisation\">decentralized organization<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/img-a1a0f14800d82b51-1960709797250816.webp\" alt=\"image\" class=\"wp-image-272592\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: Snapshot.\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The vote concluded on December 26. A total of 55.29% of AAVE holders opposed the proposal, 41.21% abstained, and only 3.5% supported it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The proposal&#8217;s authors advocated for transferring intellectual property\u2014domains, social media accounts, and trademarks\u2014under the management of a legal entity controlled by the DAO. This was presented as a necessary step towards brand decentralization.<\/p>\n<p>The conflict between the developer company and token holders began after a controversial deal. On December 4, Aave Labs announced a partnership with CoW Swap to &#8220;improve swap pricing and integrate <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-mev-in-ethereum\">MEV<\/a> protection into the protocol interface.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On December 11, a delegate known as EzR3aL claimed that fees from the updated swap contracts were now directed to a private wallet controlled by Aave Labs. The decentralized organization lost a significant portion of its revenue, angering the community.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Amid this &#8220;civil war,&#8221; AAVE <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/aave-sheds-19-in-a-week-as-project-descends-into-civil-war\">lost<\/a> 19% over the week, dropping to around $150. Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/ru.tradingview.com\/chart\/?symbol=BINANCE%3AAAVEUSDT\">TradingView<\/a>.\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Deeper Issue\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>The voting results highlighted a deeper issue\u2014discontent among major investors regarding protocol governance and revenue distribution.<\/p>\n<p>Evgeny Gaevoy, founder and CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-market-maker\">market maker<\/a> Wintermute, whose company voted against the initiative, urged the Aave Labs team to engage in serious dialogue about aligning long-term interests of all parties.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">6) Wintermute would be voting NO on the proposal (for the reasons outlined above), but we do expect AAVE labs to approach this seriously as we figure out how to solve the token valuee capture in the long run. Successfully resolving it could set a precedent for many other protocols in similar situations.<\/p>\n<p>Lido advisor Hasu described the situation as a symptom of a &#8220;fundamentally unworkable&#8221; model\u2014the coexistence of a <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/governance-tokens-vs-utility-tokens-whats-the-difference\">governance token<\/a> and a commercial company.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I&#8217;m just gonna say this much about the Aave situation, something I have repeated in many other contexs: token\/equity dual structures are fundamentally unworkable. But when conflicting incentives from equity structures are added, the complexity becomes insurmountable,&#8221; noted Hasu.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The expert acknowledged that such hybrid structures emerged a few years ago as a necessary response to hostile regulatory stances.
