Sandeep Nailwal, founder of Polygon Foundation, stated that the company is transforming into a full-fledged fintech business, entering direct competition with the payment giant <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/stripe-unveils-platform-for-launching-stablecoins\">Stripe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cIt&#8217;s a kind of &#8216;Stripe in reverse.&#8217; They first acquired startups for &#8216;stable coins&#8217; and then built their blockchain. We already have a long-established network, and we are attracting projects to build on top of it,\u201d he explained.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Based in Seattle, Washington, Coinme specializes in converting cash into cryptocurrency and holds money transfer licenses in the U.S. New York-based Sequence focuses on infrastructure and crypto wallets development.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/business\/2026\/01\/13\/polygon-labs-to-acquire-coinme-and-sequence-in-usd250-million-push-into-stablecoin-payments\">CoinDesk<\/a> reported that the purchase of Coinme cost Polygon Labs between $100 million and $125 million. The company&#8217;s CEO, Marc Boiron, refuted these claims in a comment to Fortune, calling the article \u201calmost entirely incorrect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The head of the firm also addressed Coinme&#8217;s regulatory issues. In 2025, authorities in <a href=\"https:\/\/dfpi.ca.gov\/press_release\/dfpi-fines-coinme-300000-related-to-crypto-kiosk-violations-secures-51700-in-restitution-for-victims\/\">California<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/dfi.wa.gov\/news\/press\/washington-state-dfi-takes-action-against-coinme-halt-all-money-transfers-washington-due\">Washington<\/a> raised concerns about the startup due to high withdrawal limits at crypto ATMs. Boiron stated that he considers Coinme&#8217;s compliance system \u201cadvanced\u201d and the regulators&#8217; demands excessive.<\/p>\n<p>Back in October, media reported that the blockchain platform Tempo, developed by Stripe and Paradigm, <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/tempo-valued-at-5-billion-following-500-million-funding-round\">raised $500 million<\/a> in a Series A funding round led by Thrive Capital and Greenoaks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Polygon Labs has acquired the crypto startups Coinme and Sequence.
