TRM Labs\u2019 experts noted that such instruments are used less for the broader market than as a \u201ccoordinated infrastructure for sanctions evasion\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>For settlements, bad actors and sanctioned entities most often used stablecoins, notably <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-tether-usdt\">USDT<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hacks and infrastructure attacks<\/h2>\n<p>Over the year, attackers stole $2.87bn across nearly 150 incidents. Laundering has accelerated too: criminals try to move assets through <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-are-cross-chain-bridges\">cross-chain<\/a>-swaps within 48 hours.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, 93 new ransomware variants appeared \u2014 94% more than a year earlier.
