This solution allows developers to charge <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-are-ai-agents-and-how-do-they-make-life-easier-for-web3-users\">AI agents<\/a> using the stablecoin <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-the-usdc-stablecoin\">USDC<\/a> on the Base network and the x402 protocol.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Autonomous agents are an entirely new category of users to build for, and, increasingly, to sell to.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we\u2019re launching (a preview) of machine payments on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/stripe?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@stripe<\/a>\u2014a way for developers to directly charge agents, with a few lines of code. \ud83e\udd16\ud83d\udcb8<\/p>\n<p>$ Let\u2019s start tinkering\u2026 \u2935\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jeff Weinstein (@jeff_weinstein) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jeff_weinstein\/status\/2021331763960873058?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 10, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Product manager Jeff Weinstein noted that the company plans to expand the list of supported assets, blockchains, and protocols in the future.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Technical Implementation<\/h3>\n<p>The system is based on the PaymentIntents <span data-descr=\"application programming interface\" class=\"old_tooltip\">API<\/span>. It allows businesses to programmatically charge agents for <span data-descr=\"HyperText Transfer Protocol \u2014 a data transfer protocol that underpins information exchange on the Internet\" class=\"old_tooltip\">HTTP<\/span> requests, API usage, or Model Context Protocol calls.<\/p>\n<p>The solution is built on Coinbase&#8217;s open x402 standard. It employs the previously inactive HTTP 402 status code (\u201cPayment Required\u201d) to conduct on-chain transactions directly within a web request.<\/p>\n<p>Weinstein emphasized that the traditional financial system is designed for humans and does not meet the needs of AI agents, which require microtransactions, 24\/7 global availability, and guarantees of instant finality.<\/p>\n<p>Operational mechanism:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The developer creates a PaymentIntent;<\/li>\n<li>Stripe generates a deposit address;<\/li>\n<li>The details are provided to the agent for payment;<\/li>\n<li>The transaction status is tracked via API, <span data-descr=\"automatic notifications that one program instantly sends to another when a certain event occurs (e.g., when a payment is made)\" class=\"old_tooltip\">webhooks<\/span>, or dashboard.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Taxes, refunds, and reporting are handled through Stripe&#8217;s standard tools. Direct interaction with crypto components is optional for developers. For testing, the company has released a <span data-descr=\"Command Line Interface\" class=\"old_tooltip\">CLI<\/span> utility called purl and code samples in Node and Python.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Company Valuation<\/h3>\n<p>The product announcement coincided with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-02-09\/stripe-valuation-set-to-hit-140-billion-in-new-tender-offer\">Bloomberg&#8217;s report<\/a> on Stripe preparing a new tender offer. The deal could raise the fintech giant&#8217;s valuation to $140 billion, a 31% increase from last year&#8217;s $107 billion.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, the company <a href=\"https:\/\/stripe.com\/en-pl\/newsroom\/news\/stripe-series-i-employee-liquidity\">raised $6.5 billion<\/a> in a Series I funding round led by Thrive Capital.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CoinGecko Implements Micropayments<\/h2>\n<p>Simultaneously, aggregator CoinGecko <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coinbase.com\/en-gb\/developer-platform\/discover\/launches\/coingecko-x402\">launched<\/a> API <span data-descr=\"internet addresses where a program sends requests to obtain data\" class=\"old_tooltip\">endpoints<\/span> supporting x402. The integration shifts the service to a pay-per-use model.<\/p>\n<p>Now, autonomous agents can access market and on-chain data at a fixed rate of $0.01 USDC per request. No account registration or API key is required.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Functionality<\/h3>\n<p>The tool provides access to quotes and metrics for over 18,000 assets across 250 networks. This enables developers to create autonomous arbitrage scanners and on-chain risk monitoring systems.<\/p>\n<p>The interaction is implemented via a &#8220;handshake&#8221; principle. When accessing an endpoint, the server returns a response with a 402 code and payment details.
