In January the consumer-price index rose 0.2% seasonally adjusted; year on year it was 2.4% versus 2.7% in December.<\/p>\n<p>Digital gold continued higher over the weekend, reaching $70,000. At press time it trades around $69,500.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the top ten by market value showed similar moves. Standard Chartered <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/standard-chartered-predicts-bitcoin-drop-to-50000-before-rebound\">mooted<\/a> a fall to $50,000 with a subsequent rebound by year-end.<\/p>\n<p>K33, by contrast, <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/bitcoins-60000-dip-a-local-bottom-says-k33\">reckons<\/a> capitulation has already occurred and $60,000 was the local bottom of the correction.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-cryptos-fear-and-greed-index\">Crypto Fear and Greed Index<\/a> remains at an extreme low of 8.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/img-b20a67f069d6888f-6381429143130838.webp\" alt=\"image\" class=\"wp-image-275190\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Crypto Fear and Greed Index. Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/alternative.me\/crypto\/fear-and-greed-index\/\">Alternative<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Total market capitalisation of digital assets is $2.45trn.<\/p>\n<p>Bitcoin dominance is 56.6%; Ethereum\u2019s, 9.9%.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Russia\u2019s new crypto rules<\/h2>\n<p>In Russia it was a busy week for new crypto initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>On February 10th the State Duma passed in third reading a law setting procedures for the arrest and seizure of digital assets in criminal proceedings, recognising cryptocurrency as property.<\/p>\n<p>Under the provisions, digital currency and devices providing access to it may be seized during investigative actions with the participation of a specialist. The protocol must specify the asset type, quantity and address identifiers. Carriers and information required to access cryptocurrency are stored under seal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf there is a technical possibility\u201d the assets may be transferred to a separate address. After arrest, operations with them cease in whole or in part depending on the court\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n<p>Drafted by the justice ministry, the document sets only broad enforcement parameters; the details will be defined in by-laws. Authorities must also fine-tune a mechanism to sell confiscated digital assets for the benefit of the state.<\/p>\n<p>ForkLog\u2019s legal contributors <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/experts-critique-russias-new-cryptocurrency-seizure-rules\">examined<\/a> the document in a separate article.<\/p>\n<p>The finance ministry, together with the central bank and federal executive bodies, also <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/russia-approves-asset-tokenization-concept\">drafted<\/a> a concept to tokenise real-world assets. The aim is \u201cthe introduction and development of digital innovations, including active use of distributed ledgers\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The first phase of tokenisation will cover:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>property rights over various types of assets;<\/li>\n<li>exclusive rights to results of intellectual activity where transactions are not subject to state registration;<\/li>\n<li>documentary securities;<\/li>\n<li>shares in the charter capital of limited-liability companies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201c[\u2026] blockchain will replace financial intermediaries and reduce transaction costs. Applying the technology will automate the execution of orders and investment decisions, reduce the need for human involvement and the likelihood of operational errors,\u201d the finance ministry stressed.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to discuss with friends?<\/h2>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>OpenAI <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/openai-brings-advertising-to-chatgpt\">added<\/a> advertising to ChatGPT.<\/li>\n<li>CoinShares <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/coinshares-assesses-quantum-threat-to-bitcoin-as-minimal\">estimated<\/a> the true scale of the quantum threat at just 10,200 BTC.<\/li>\n<li>A Fed governor <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/federal-reserve-official-notes-waning-cryptocurrency-hype\">noted<\/a> the \u201cfading\u201d hype around cryptocurrencies.<\/li>\n<li>BlackRock\u2019s BUILD fund will be <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/blackrocks-build-fund-to-be-listed-on-uniswap\">listed<\/a> on Uniswap.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dawn of AI agents<\/h2>\n<p>Projects have begun actively rolling out tools for AI agents. First this week was payments giant Stripe.<\/p>\n<p>The company <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/stripe-unveils-payments-for-ai-agents-using-usdc-and-x402-protocol\">announced<\/a> a preview of \u201cmachine payments\u201d, a tool that lets developers charge automated bots using the USDC stablecoin on Base and the x402 protocol.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/img-979ad0fb36d10c74-6381403156859261.webp\" alt=\"image\" class=\"wp-image-275189\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: X.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The system is built on the PaymentIntents <span data-descr=\"application programming interface\" class=\"old_tooltip\">API<\/span>. With it, businesses can programmatically charge agents for HTTP requests, API usage or Model Context Protocol calls. The technology will be expanded to other blockchains in future.<\/p>\n<p>Following Stripe, US exchange Coinbase <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/coinbase-unveils-wallet-infrastructure-for-ai-agents\">unveiled<\/a> Agentic Wallets\u2014wallet infrastructure designed for autonomous AI. It allows digital assistants to self-custody funds, make payments, trade tokens, earn yield, rebalance DeFi positions and perform on-chain transactions.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cAI agents are everywhere\u2014they answer questions, summarise documents and help with tasks. But today, neural networks hit a wall when they need to do something with money,\u201d said Coinbase Developer Platform\u2019s Eric Reppel and Josh Nickerson.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Last with AI novelties were the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/lightning-network-faster-cheaper-bitcoin-transactions\">Lightning Network<\/a> developers. The team behind bitcoin\u2019s micropayments network <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/lightning-network-integrates-tools-for-ai-agents\">released<\/a> open-source tooling to give agents direct access to the protocol.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/img-77af1a0eec040e6b-6381403180367001.webp\" alt=\"image\" class=\"wp-image-275186\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Prompt for AI agents. Source: Lightning Labs.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The tools let agents work directly with the first cryptocurrency\u2019s payment rails without mandatory identification, API keys or registration. Available AI \u201cskills\u201d include node operations, remote key isolation, credentials, restricted-access payments, hosting paid endpoints and querying node status.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MegaETH mainnet<\/h2>\n<p>On February 9th the Ethereum-based <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-layer%e2%80%912-solution-in-blockchain\">L2<\/a> project\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/can-ethereum-outpace-solana-inside-megaeth-an-ambitious-new-rollup\">MegaETH<\/a>\u2014launched its mainnet. The solution <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/megaeth-team-launches-public-mainnet\">positions itself<\/a> as a \u201creal-time blockchain\u201d, targeting throughput of 100,000 <span data-descr=\"transactions per second\" class=\"old_tooltip\">TPS<\/span> and near-instant transaction finality.<\/p>\n<p>The ecosystem\u2019s native token, MEGA, is not fully unlocked. Distribution and rollout will proceed gradually, tied to the blockchain\u2019s development milestones.<\/p>\n<p>Another key element of network activity is the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-are-stablecoins\">stablecoin<\/a> USDm, supported by all major applications. The MegaETH Foundation plans to channel all income from its use into buying back and accumulating MEGA.<\/p>\n<p>Just over 50 applications and protocols are currently live on the chain.<\/p>\n<p>The mainnet launch followed an <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-an-ico-and-can-you-profit-from-it\">ICO<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/megaeth-raises-27-8-billion-in-token-sale\">held<\/a> in October 2025. The project raised $1.39bn\u201427x oversubscribed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also on ForkLog:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Crypto\u2024com\u2019s chief <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/crypto-com-ceo-acquires-ai-com-for-70-million-to-launch-ai-agent-platform\">bought<\/a> the AI\u2024com domain for $70m to launch an AI-agent platform.<\/li>\n<li>Polymarket and Kaito AI <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/polymarket-and-kaito-ai-announce-attention-markets\">announced<\/a> \u201cattention markets\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Glassnode <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/glassnode-calls-bitcoins-current-drawdown-moderate\">called<\/a> bitcoin\u2019s current pullback \u201cmoderate\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Vitalik Buterin <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/vitalik-buterin-criticizes-token-distribution-for-user-acquisition\">criticised<\/a> token giveaways aimed at user acquisition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Korean-style theft<\/h2>\n<p>South Korean media <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/22-btc-vanish-from-south-korean-police-cold-wallet\">reported<\/a> that local police discovered the disappearance of 22 BTC (~$1.5bn) seized in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The coins were stored in a cold wallet at the Gangnam police station in Seoul. Their absence came to light during a nationwide audit of seized digital-asset storage by law-enforcement agencies.<\/p>\n<p>Checks began after the Gwangju District Prosecutors\u2019 Office lost 320 BTC <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/hackers-steal-48-million-in-confiscated-bitcoin-from-south-korean-prosecutors\">worth roughly $48m<\/a>. The loss was discovered in January.<\/p>\n<p>Preliminary findings point to a leaked password. One staffer fell victim to a phishing attack by visiting a spoofed website.<\/p>\n<p>In the 22 BTC case, the assets were moved to an external address.
