He added that the lack of privacy hampers Bitcoin&#8217;s scalability.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;I think privacy plays a fundamental role in our society. But right now, Bitcoin and most cryptocurrencies lack sufficient privacy features. When Bitcoin was designed, it was supposed to be pseudo-anonymous, but every transaction on the blockchain can be traced, especially now with centralized exchanges with <span data-descr=\"Know Your Customer \u2014 'know your client'\" class=\"old_tooltip\">KYC<\/span>,&#8221; Zhao stated.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Community Opinions\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>Shielded Labs product lead, known as zooko, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/zooko\/status\/2023059015563874386\">supported<\/a> the Binance founder. According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/jlopp\/physical-bitcoin-attacks\">tracker<\/a> created by Bitcoin developer Jameson Lopp, 70 such incidents were recorded during that period.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since the beginning of 2026, the statistics have been supplemented by 14 more cases. The latest high-profile incident occurred on February 13: according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rtl.fr\/actu\/justice-faits-divers\/info-rtl-cryptomonnaies-le-patron-de-binance-france-mastodonte-du-secteur-vise-par-une-tentative-de-home-jacking-7900601034\">French media<\/a>, the victim was Binance France CEO David Princay.<\/p>\n<p>Some community members called CZ&#8217;s statements hypocritical, pointing to the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/binance-sets-deadline-for-withdrawal-of-delisted-monero-and-other-tokens\">delisting<\/a> of the privacy cryptocurrency <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-monero-xmr\">Monero<\/a> from Binance in 2024.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Imagine how hypocritical you have to be to talk about the importance of privacy and then remove XMR from Binance?<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 TheFuzzStone (@thefuzzstone) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/thefuzzstone\/status\/2023050009684447398?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 15, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Others considered the dreams of privacy too utopian. According to a user under the pseudonym <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Epykurious\/status\/2023030321101373797\">Epykurious<\/a>, governments worldwide will always view confidential cryptocurrencies as a problem.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As an example, he cited cases against the developers of Samurai Wallet and Tornado Cash.
