February could be the fifth straight month the cryptocurrency closes lower (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coinglass.com\/today\">CoinGlass<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>According to Strategy, the latest purchases were financed by selling $95.5m of MSTR common stock and $78.4m of STRC preferred shares.<\/p>\n<p>MSTR <a href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/quote\/MSTR\/\">fell<\/a> 3.5% after Tuesday\u2019s open. Over the past 12 months Strategy\u2019s share price has dropped by more than 60%.<\/p>\n<p>The firm\u2019s market capitalisation is about $42.88bn; the value of its bitcoin fund is roughly $48.05bn. A key metric for assessing crypto-treasury companies, mNAV, has slipped below 1 at Strategy.<\/p>\n<p>In February founder and chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/michael-saylor-the-microstrategy-founders-biography-and-views\">Michael Saylor<\/a> said the corporation would remain financially resilient even if the price of bitcoin fell to $8,000. Trader Vladimir Cohen <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/michael-saylor-asserts-strategy-will-withstand-bitcoins-fall-to-8000\">called<\/a> the claim \u201ctypical marketing\u201d. The key risks for Strategy, he noted, are not the depth of any decline, but the duration of the downtrend and potential investor disappointment.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cAsia\u2019s Strategy\u201d reports a $619m annual loss<\/h2>\n<p>Japan\u2019s Metaplanet <a href=\"https:\/\/contents.xj-storage.jp\/xcontents\/33500\/950d7031\/221a\/4a55\/a35b\/03d8d22182fb\/140120260216563315.pdf\">reported<\/a> a net loss of ~$619m for 2025, versus net profit of ~$28.9m in the previous period.<\/p>\n<p>The negative result stemmed from a revaluation of the firm\u2019s bitcoin reserve, which came to a negative $664.8m.<\/p>\n<p>Metaplanet has amassed 35,102 BTC compared with 1,762 BTC as of December 31, 2024. The bitcoin reserve is worth about $3.5bn.<\/p>\n<p>The firm described its balance sheet as resilient:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>debt of ~$304m;<\/li>\n<li>revenue for the year of ~$58m;<\/li>\n<li>operating profit of roughly $6.9m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Financial operations in bitcoin (mostly options) generated ~$55.2m of income for the year.<\/p>\n<p>With a market capitalisation of $2.58bn, the Japanese company maintains mNAV above 1.3.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">El Salvador\u2019s bitcoin reserve reaches 7,564 BTC<\/h2>\n<p>The government of El Salvador has continued its strategy of buying one bitcoin per day. As of February 16, the national reserve held ~7,564.4 BTC worth roughly $512m.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/img-b25c235773d58379-6572091558033627.webp\" alt=\"image\" class=\"wp-image-275325\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoin.gob.sv\/ru\/wallet\/ONBTC\">Bitcoin Office<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It remains unclear how the authorities are topping up the crypto fund. Under a December 2024 loan agreement with the IMF, the country <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-augments-bitcoin-reserves-by-19-btc\">pledged to halt purchases<\/a> of digital gold. However, the head of El Salvador\u2019s National Bitcoin Office, Stacy Herbert, <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-expands-bitcoin-purchases-despite-imf-deal\">announced an acceleration<\/a> of buying.<\/p>\n<p>In August 2025 specialists from the international organisation <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/imf-denies-el-salvadors-bitcoin-purchases\">confirmed<\/a> El Salvador\u2019s compliance with the agreement. Changes in the bitcoin balance were explained as wallet rebalancing.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2021 El Salvador has <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-begins-bitcoin-mining-on-volcano-powered-energy\">mined bitcoin<\/a> at a state geothermal power plant. The initiative was launched in test mode roughly a month after the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-legalises-bitcoin-as-government-buys-550-btc\">law recognising bitcoin<\/a> as legal tender took effect.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2023 the authorities <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/el-salvador-to-build-a-241-mw-bitcoin-farm\">announced the Volcano Energy project<\/a> with 241 MW of capacity, intended to use renewable energy for mining digital gold. One of the investors <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/tether-invests-1bn-in-bitcoin-mine-in-el-salvador\">was<\/a> Tether, the company behind the stablecoin <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-tether-usdt\">USDT<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/data.hashrateindex.com\/network-data\/global-hashrate-heatmap\">Hashrate Index<\/a>, in the fourth quarter of 2025 El Salvador generated bitcoin <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-are-hashrate-and-mining-difficulty-in-cryptocurrencies\">hashrate<\/a> of 1.1 EH\/s. Free cash totals $670m, and the value of all assets is $10.7bn.<\/p>\n<p>BitMine has locked <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-staking-and-how-to-make-money-from-it\">staking<\/a> of 3,040,483 ETH. On current prices and a composite yield of 2.84%, that implies potential annual passive income of $176m.<\/p>\n<p>In early February analysts noted that the unrealised loss from the company\u2019s crypto strategy had <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/dat-firms-rack-up-billions-in-paper-losses\">approached $7bn<\/a>.
