The first transaction was 2,016 ETH.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">1\/ The Ethereum Foundation has begun staking a portion of its treasury, in line with its Treasury Policy announced last year.<\/p>\n<p>Today, the EF made a 2016 ETH deposit. All rewards will fund the ecosystem of the second-largest cryptocurrency, including research and community grants.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cWe are pleased to take this important step, which will help secure the Ethereum network while funding EF\u2019s core operations and activities,\u201d representatives of the organisation said.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>For staking, EF uses the open tools Dirk and Vouch from Attestant. The former acts as a distributed signer, coordinating across jurisdictions and removing a single point of failure. The latter handles validator management.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation oversees assets worth $371m. In support of the initiative, he contributed 16,384 ETH (about $43m at the time). The funds are earmarked for projects in:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>finance;<\/li>\n<li>communications;<\/li>\n<li>governance;<\/li>\n<li>operating systems;<\/li>\n<li>secure hardware;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/vitalik-buterin-offloads-1-16m-of-ether\">biotechnology<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Timing<\/h2>\n<p>The sales come amid a deep correction in Ethereum: over the past month the asset has fallen 38% and trades <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/analysts-warn-of-bitcoins-potential-drop-to-47000\">around $1,800<\/a>. Some <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CryptoGodJohn\/status\/2026134378204581905\">criticised<\/a> him \u201cfor dumping his own project.\u201d Others supported the programmer, noting he disclosed the sales publicly.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cFraming the situation as \u2018pure selling\u2019 distorts the understanding of intentions. It creates unnecessary concerns, overlooking the funding goals. [\u2026] It is necessary to consider the full context,\u201d <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DannyDailyNote\/status\/2026134475307114731\"><em>wrote<\/em><\/a><em> a user under the pseudonym Danny Daily Note.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Transfers from Buterin\u2019s wallet have previously coincided with price declines, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/lookonchain\/status\/2025749797655962058\">Lookonchain noted<\/a>. For example, before selling 6,958 ETH ($14.78m), the price fell from $2,360 to $1,825 (-22.7%).<\/p>\n<p>On 22\u201323 February, when the Ethereum co-founder sold 1,869 ETH ($3.67m), quotes fell from $1,988 to $1,875 (-5.7%).<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, on the asset\u2019s daily chart a \u201cbearish pennant\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/ethereum-chart-reveals-bearish-pennant-targeting-1100\">formed<\/a>\u2014a pattern indicating the likelihood of a strong downward price move.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The non-profit Ethereum Foundation has begun staking part of its treasury.
