The app can identify products from Meta (Oakley) and Snap.<\/p>\n<p>When a relevant signal is detected, Nearby Glasses sends a notification to the user. Users can also add their own Bluetooth keys to expand the list of detectable devices.<\/p>\n<p>On the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/yjeanrenaud\/yj_nearbyglasses\">GitHub<\/a> page, the app&#8217;s developer, Yves Jeanrenaud, described smart glasses as an &#8220;intolerable invasion of privacy, disregard for others&#8217; will, and a terrible technological invention.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Some smart glasses have a small LED indicating recording is in progress. But it can be easily disabled [\u2026] Fourth-generation &#8216;smart&#8217; glasses have already been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.404media.co\/someone-put-facial-recognition-tech-onto-metas-smart-glasses-to-instantly-dox-strangers\/\">used<\/a> for instant facial recognition, and reportedly, this feature <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/02\/13\/technology\/meta-facial-recognition-smart-glasses.html\">will be available<\/a> in the fifth generation. This endangers many people,&#8221; said the creator of Nearby Glasses.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jeanrenaud also warned that his app might work inaccurately, potentially misidentifying other devices from smart glasses manufacturers. He urged users not to harass individuals suspected of wearing hidden recording devices.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.404media.co\/this-app-warns-you-if-someone-is-wearing-smart-glasses-nearby\/\">404 Media<\/a>, the developer shared that news of covert surveillance using smart glasses inspired him to create the solution.
