In February, investors withdrew 31.6m ETH from centralised exchanges \u2014 the largest monthly total since November 2025, noted<\/a> CryptoQuant analyst Arab Chain.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Almost half involved Binance \u2014 14.45m ETH. Activity is concentrating on the most liquid exchange, which is typical during periods of structural shifts in the market, the analyst said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Outflows from OKX and Kraken were 3.83m ETH and 1.04m ETH, respectively.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Large withdrawals reduce the number of coins available for spot trading. Once moved to private wallets or into staking<\/a>, Ethereum becomes less liquid in the short term. According to Arab Chain, shrinking exchange balances can increase the cryptocurrency\u2019s price volatility.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Binance\u2019s ETH reserves fell to 3.46m \u2014 the lowest since 2020. In previous cycles, balances topped 5m coins before declining, forming a sequence of lower peaks. The current reading extends that trend.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With the price below $2,000, a reduced exchange float shifts attention to demand dynamics. If buying pressure rises as reserves fall, order-book liquidity could tighten around the key $2,000 level. Over the longer term, this could prove supportive for Ethereum.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another positive signal is the large queue to enter staking. As of 4 March, 3.3m ETH were queued for lock-up (an estimated wait of about 60 days).\u00a0<\/p>\n

The figure remains near record levels. The peak, 4.1m ETH, was recorded in mid-February.<\/p>\n

Digital totalitarianism and \u2018sanctuary technologies\u2019<\/h2>\n

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin<\/a> urged developers to stop trying to emulate Big Tech and to focus on building \u201csanctuary technologies\u201d. In his words, the network should protect freedom rather than chase profit.<\/p>\n
