At the end of January, his identity was <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/boasting-on-telegram-leads-to-unveiling-of-40-million-theft-from-us-government\">revealed<\/a> by on-chain investigator ZachXBT.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Last night, John Daghita \u2013 a U.S. government contractor who allegedly stole more than $46 million in cryptocurrency from the U.S Marshals Service \u2013 was arrested on the island of Saint Martin by the French Gendarmerie\u2019s premier elite tactical unit in a joint operation with the\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3ttochgbjk\">pic.twitter.com\/3ttochgbjk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 FBI Director Kash Patel (@FBIDirectorKash) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FBIDirectorKash\/status\/2029574256959389933?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 5, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>According to FBI Director Kash Patel, the suspect was apprehended on the island of Saint Martin in cooperation with French law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>It took American authorities just over a month to respond to ZachXBT&#8217;s investigation. The latter managed to track down Daghita thanks to bragging on Telegram \u2014 in one of the chats, the perpetrator, using the pseudonym Lick, revealed his wallet. Through it, the on-chain sleuth traced the movement of the stolen funds.<\/p>\n<p>The stolen assets were linked to a U.S. government seizure in the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/u-s-authorities-confiscated-3-6-billion-in-bitcoin-stolen-from-bitfinex\">Bitfinex exchange case<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to ZachXBT, the arrested individual is the son of CMDSS CEO Dean Daghita. In 2024, the firm signed a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gao.gov\/products\/b-423217,b-423217.2\">contract<\/a> with the Marshals Service to assist in managing some seized cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the FBI director referred to Daghita Jr. as a &#8220;government contractor&#8221; in his post, though his specific position at CMDSS is unknown.<\/p>\n<p>Following the suspect&#8217;s arrest, ZachXBT posted separately.
