ASIC devices are approximately 30 times cheaper than <span data-descr=\"graphics processing unit\" class=\"old_tooltip\">GPU<\/span>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cA kilowatt of the B200 chip may cost $30,000, whereas ASICs are only about $1,000,\u201d Johnston explained.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>He considers orbital mining to be the &#8220;business of the future,&#8221; primarily due to cost savings compared to Earth-based mining. Space offers access to infinite and free solar energy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cBitcoin mining continuously consumes about 20 GW of energy. Doing this on Earth is pointless \u2014 sooner or later, all of this should move to orbit,\u201d emphasized the CEO of Starcloud.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The project, specializing in the creation of space data centers, emerged in 2024. Part of this equipment will be used for cryptocurrency mining.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, the implementation of these plans directly depends on SpaceX and the launch of the heavy-lift Starship rocket, which <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/the-economist-predicts-the-dawn-of-space-based-data-centres\">is expected<\/a> in March.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another startup exploring bitcoin mining in space is Intercosmic Energy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to its <a href=\"https:\/\/intercosmicenergy.us\/mission\">website<\/a>, the project&#8217;s mission is to launch satellites that will serve as a decentralized issuance center for the first cryptocurrency.
