Over the past six months, the pace of inflows has tripled, with the accumulated volume rising from $20 billion to $60 billion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;Retail investors are fully focused on precious metals,&#8221; experts noted.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Institutional sales began in mid-November and accelerated sharply after the January correction in the precious metals market. Since then, gold has fallen by 9%, and silver has lost 34%.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/img-eef980326011dfac-9131784868777002.webp\" alt=\"image\" class=\"wp-image-277066\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: BIS.\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The BIS explained the collapse as a result of overheated positions. Small speculators accumulated an excessive volume of leveraged longs. The subsequent margin calls and liquidations of over-leveraged funds triggered a domino effect.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;The reversal is not related to fundamental changes. It&#8217;s a story about retail flows and a chain reaction of forced sales,&#8221; specialists emphasized.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>They concluded that the decline in gold and silver prices occurred amid changing expectations regarding U.S. monetary policy and the dynamics of the dollar, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/symbols\/TVC-DXY\/\">strengthened<\/a> by 4.7% since the end of January.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>&#8220;The collapse in precious metal prices apparently coincided with a shift in expectations regarding the U.S. national currency and the direction of the <span data-descr=\"Federal Reserve System of the United States\" class=\"old_tooltip\">Fed<\/span>, but it was difficult to reconcile with broader changes in fundamental factors,&#8221; the BIS concluded.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Against this macroeconomic backdrop, the capitalization of the crypto market has shrunk by approximately 43% from October highs.
