The key innovation is the first operational implementation of <a href=\"https:\/\/bip360.org\/\">BIP-360<\/a>\u2014the <span data-descr=\"Pay-to-Merkle-Root\" class=\"old_tooltip\">P2MR<\/span> standard, designed to protect transactions from quantum computer attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Although BIP-360 is already included in the official repository of Bitcoin improvement proposals, work on it in the Bitcoin Core client is virtually non-existent. BTQ has outpaced the main network by turning a theoretical proposal into working code.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Essence of the Update<\/h2>\n<p>BIP-360 addresses a vulnerability in <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-taproot\">Taproot<\/a>, which exposes public keys on the blockchain. This makes them potentially vulnerable to <a href=\"https:\/\/ru.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/%D0%90%D0%BB%D0%B3%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B8%D1%82%D0%BC_%D0%A8%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B0\">Shor&#8217;s algorithm<\/a> on quantum computers in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The new P2MR output type allows the use of Taproot scripts (necessary for <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/lightning-network-faster-cheaper-bitcoin-transactions\">Lightning Network<\/a>, BitVM, and Ark) but removes the possibility of <span data-descr=\"key-path spend, a private way of spending funds in the Bitcoin network through Taproot, using a single aggregated public key instead of complex scripts\" class=\"old_tooltip\">key-path spending<\/span>. Instead, the system records commitments in the root of the <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/what-is-a-merkle-tree\">Merkle tree<\/a> without using a private key. The update also activates post-quantum Dilithium signatures\u2014a standard approved by the <span data-descr=\"National Institute of Standards and Technology, USA\" class=\"old_tooltip\">NIST<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Infrastructure and Plans<\/h2>\n<p>Developers have introduced a fully functional <span data-descr=\"cryptocurrency wallet managed exclusively through the command line (console\/terminal), not through a graphical interface\" class=\"old_tooltip\">CLI wallet<\/span>. Users can now create, sign, and send P2MR transactions in the testnet.<\/p>\n<p>BTQ Technologies shared testnet activity metrics:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>more than 50 miners have joined the network;<\/li>\n<li>over 100,000 blocks have been mined;<\/li>\n<li>block time has been reduced to 1 minute to speed up testing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The company&#8217;s CEO, Olivier Roussy Newton, noted that the industry cannot afford to wait for a crisis to begin testing. Bitcoin Quantum was created as a testing ground to verify protection before the quantum threat becomes real.<\/p>\n<p>The company also revealed monetization plans: launching a mining pool with a 3% fee and accumulating BTQ tokens on the corporate balance sheet. <\/p>\n<p>Back in March, Galaxy Digital&#8217;s head of research, Alex Thorn, <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/galaxy-digital-downplays-bitcoins-quantum-computing-threat\">stated<\/a> that fears regarding the first cryptocurrency network being compromised by quantum computers are greatly exaggerated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BTQ Technologies has released version v0.3.0 of the Bitcoin Quantum testnet.
