Officials equated the service to an online casino.<\/p>\n<p>The trigger for the blockade was bets on the early resignation of the country&#8217;s president, Prabowo Subianto. One of the markets offered wagers on the leader stepping down before the end of 2026, despite his term ending in 2029. Trading volume in this area exceeded $46,000. The ministry emphasized that any form of online gambling is prohibited in the country.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cPolymarket&#8217;s activities involve betting and speculation on uncertain outcomes. This violates Indonesian laws,\u201d said ministry spokesperson Alexander Sabar.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The ministry added that the decision aims to \u201cprotect the youth and users of the national digital space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia joins a list of countries that consider prediction markets as gambling tools. Previously, India <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiatoday.in\/technology\/news\/story\/indian-government-set-to-block-polymarket-kalshi-to-crack-down-on-prediction-markets-2915339-2026-05-22\">restricted<\/a> access to Polymarket. The platform is unavailable in more than 30 jurisdictions.<\/p>\n<p>Supporters of the platform argue that Polymarket is a tool for tracking public sentiment. Regulators, however, fear market manipulation and insider trading. Against this backdrop, the project team plans to obtain official permits to operate in several countries, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-05-22\/polymarket-is-said-to-seek-japan-market-approval-in-global-push\">including<\/a> Japan.<\/p>\n<p>Back in May, Polymarket <a href=\"https:\/\/forklog.com\/en\/news\/polymarket-confirms-private-key-compromise\">confirmed<\/a> the compromise of a private key.
